There is much talk about the "rape" trade involving the Lakers and the Grizzlies. While the trade can be termed as lopsided - I am interested if fans of other teams can actually make an alternative offer to the Lakers package.

Per Chris Wallace - the parameters are: Expiring Contracts - Picks and Undrafted Assets - Trading GM is willing to go over Luxury Tax. (So do not offer Marion for Gasol lol!). Lemme see!

It's not just a regular rape, it's the rape of Nankin. Have you ever seen such a lopsided trade ?

I am not defending the trade - I actually am gloating having such a lopsided trade for my team. I am just interested if other fans who think that it is lopsided can actually make a better offer given the parameters,

3 teams gave better offers, but were denied.

It's funny how Memphis declined a deal last year that could have given them over $13M worth of expiring contracts, Andres Nocioni and a lottery pick and they settled for $9M, Javaris Crittenton and some very late 1st rounders.

grizzlies are idiots, they could have a much better deal, there are better rookies than criteton and better picks than the lakers give. for ex. bulls can give duhon and tyrus thomas who are better than critecton and they're picks are definitely better than the lakers ones.

Bulls do not want to go over the luxury tax.

now would any other team or playoff team that comes up with the same offer or better for miller, would grizzlies trade?

the gm of grizzlies said it himself, he thinks grizzlies can go places with miller, he is tryin to boast millers stock and get a better deal out for him.

So why is pau any less of a player than miller? its not like miller was a franchise player or a player who can turn around a teams woes....

he made a stupid trade to the lakers for peanuts, now he wants to get more out of miller? it shouldve been the other way around.

Had the Grizzlies agreed to the proposed trade last season, Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf wouldn't have had a problem paying LuxTax since we at the time were winners and added an inside scorer. But he has never been fond of spending money on the NBA. He's a baseball fan first and formost, and that makes the Bulls a 2nd priority..

We need a new owner. Anyone have around $600M to spend?

I was convinced I'd never see a more lopsided trade than the Boston/McHale trade.

The Lakers proved me wrong.

Off the top of my head, only three teams could have potentially put together a better package:

Washington - something built around Jamison's massive expiring and one of their young talents like Young, Pech, etc. Wallace said that Kwame was the largest expiring he could find, so presumably Washington was interested in parting with Jamison (or Jamison has a player option for next year?)

Miami - something built around Davis's & Jwill's expirings and one of their young talents, probably Cook moreso than Wright because Wright is an expiring himself this year IIRC. Obviously Miami would have no interest in parting with their lottery pick this year and luxury tax would be an issue, too.

Orlando - they would be able to cobble together a handful of expirings that might be equivalent to Kwame's, but what young asset could they include? Reddick, the rights to Vazquez, and/or Augustine (is he even still on the roster?) wouldn't cut it IMO.


Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on any of this: but looking at those three teams, I don't see the Grizz and any of them coming to an agreement that provides everything both parties would be looking for.

Suprised by this senseless trade for the Grizzlies? Yes.

lol @ jeoulous fans. They traded for 9 mil expiring, young version of pau gasol (his brother marc gasol) , and a young prospect Jcritt + picks. go a head list a trade that would actually happen, list teams that don't mind paying tax and can offer their picks for future as well.

The lakers win this easily even if one of the prospects given turn out to be a borderline all-star given the situation they are in with Kobe, and the fact that they need to win now.

And who say Marc Gasol will play in the NBA? maybe he comes after 6 years, Scola did come 3 or 4 years later.

It doesn't matter. The Grizzlies explained what they were trying to accomplish and a deal got done.
