League either needs to have teams switch conferences or...

do away with the concept of conferences and divisions entirely.

I looked at the standings today and #10 team in the West would be the #4 seed in the East. It's ridiculous how bad the Eastern conference is outside of the top 4 teams. Just put the best 16 teams in the playoffs and if Sacramento gets in but Atlanta stays out so be it.

We all know that the playoffs format is rediculous and all, but we also all know that they won't be changing up the conferences or the playoffs format anytime within the next ten years.

As a Piston fan, I say keep everything the way it is. Bring on that below .500 team in the first round :D

Seriously it's been bad for the last few years, but this year when as many as 6 teams should win 50 games, and a team with mid 40s will probably be left out, it's just terrible.

Just like the AFC proved to be superior to the NFC right?

from decade to decade the power is always going to swing back and forth, from east to west, so i dont see why it should be changed

and that might not have happened had the depth not been so much better in the west. in the west its rare to just sweep teams in the first two rounds like you can in the east and sip on lemonade until someone good shows up in a month. boston and detroit are contenders. but after that, the teams are pathetic.

its a matter of depth.

They need to go to an American and National type leage ala MLB.

And before someone brings up the whole airline thing, and how its not feesable (sp?), baseball has done it for years.

Detroit played a 7 game series against NJ team that had been to the previous two NBA finals, then a tough fought 6 game series against the Indiana Pacers which had 60+ wins and the best record in the NBA.

That's not exactly a cupcake.

Keep things as they are it's only a temporary thing anyway.

The Heat had a much easier first two rounds, and were playing a Pistons team that just went 7 games against the Cavs.

The Heat probably had the easiest road to a title in recent memory.

Revisionist history is crazy, Bstein already did the Pistons in 04. In 2006 The Heat played as many games as Dallas going into the final, including two 6 game series, one against the two time defending finalists and the team with the best record in the league Detroit.

Compared to Dallas though, it was about equal. So even though they had it easy, they couldn't claim an advantage in the finals.

The crazy thing is that the west is only going to get better because the weaker teams have to play all the dominant teams 4 times a year which will guarantee that the bottom of the western conferance will have a great chance at the top few picks. Last year they added Oden and Durant to the west and this season don't be surprised to see Beasley, Rose and Mayo heading out there.

Now now, don't underestimate the Heat and Knicks (provided they don't trade their pick again) :P

I don't understand the whole East have been champions 4 of the past 8 years argument considering I don't think anybody is saying teams like Detroit/Boston are less superior because they play in the East (they are just as good as any team in the West), but rather people are arguing that the depth of both conference is ridiculous. In the West a team that wins 48+ games could potentially miss the playoffs and in the East, a team that goes 35-47 would make the playoffs and in that type of instance something has to be changed.

Nothing will change this season though....

Oh no one's arguing that the bottom of the east is the least bit good, the argument was that part of the reason Miami and Detroit won was their road through the playoffs was so easy, when that wasn't true.

Nothing has to be changed.

It wasn't changed back in the 90's, when one season the Central division had as many 50+ win teams as the entire Western conference, or when it had as many winning teams as the entire Western conference.

It's cyclical, and it doesn't need to be changed. I didn't hear many from the West all eager to switch conferences back when Jordan was playing.

Yeah, Detroit had to go through some tough teams like Indiana and then obviously the Lakers, then Miami through Detroit and Dallas. No team ever has had an "easy" path to the chip. Sure some have had easier than others but whoever has won, has won it fair and square.
