Let's let the coaches vote, since they did such a great job picking the All-Star reserves.

Players and coaches. The media sucks and the fans would make it a popularity contest.

Only the reserves usually, which the fans get no say in.
Still, having the fans vote is a bad idea. Then again, so was letting the media vote.

There needs to be a definition of the "best player" before that can happen.

This is tough. I don't think I have an answer.
Imo, the media has greater coverage of the league but it certainly has some bias against certain players in the league. Meanwhile, coaches might be a little more objective but they don't see everything about the league.

exactly, if coaches voted im sure Kobe would have an MVP maybe two by now.

That is still arbitrary. I mean, how do you know who's team production would drop off CONSIDERABLY if a said player never misses time to find out?
