Loose Lips Stackhouse Could kill Kidd to Dallas Trade

Post#1 » by Brooklyn718 » Fri Feb 15, 2008 12:20 pm

The NBA will investigate the possibility the Mavericks and Stackhouse violated league rules with a prearranged agreement for the forward to return to Dallas after reaching a contract buyout in New Jersey and sitting out the 30-day waiting period, sources said. Several league sources said the NBA will consider forbidding Stackhouse to re-sign with the Mavericks this season as punishment for public comments the forward made on Wednesday that suggested tampering could have occurred.

If it comes to that, the deal is dead. Dallas owner Mark Cuban wouldn't complete the trade for Kidd without a belief that he could bring back Stackhouse this season. Ultimately, sources say, Mavericks management decided that losing Stackhouse would be too hard of a hit to the Mavericks' depth, too steep a price to pay for Kidd.

For the Mavericks, the trouble started when Stackhouse, 33, gave an interview to the Associated Press on Wednesday that suggested there was a plan for how his trade, buyout and eventual re-signing with Dallas would unfold.

Stackhouse said that he was only part of the deal "to make the numbers work."

What's more, he said, "I feel great. I get 30 days to rest then I'll be right back. I ain't going nowhere

This is pretty much dumb if the NBA punishes him. Oh no, how couldn't the rest of the league figure this out!??

Dumb indeed. It changes nothing.
Teams would just shut up.

Why not change the rule instead of doing something stupid like this?

I though they had ended this loophole . . .I guess instead they just put a 30 day vacation period in before he can resign. It would be easy enough :A team that trades a player, cannot resign that player to a new contract during that same season.

IT's the same situation that got Kevin McHale and Minnesota punished in the Joe Smith situation . . . or does anyone here believe that some players' agents haven't been in communication with people on other teams before they make their decision about whether to go free agent. . . . there are a lot of things that go on under the table; if they get out, Stern has to act to preserve the rules.

Stackhouse is stoopid. Seriously, he's an idiot. Only a moron actually says that publicly the whole point is its a backroom sort of deal.

Stupid Mavericks...

Post#14 » by writerman » Fri Feb 15, 2008 3:16 pm

they consider Stackhouse--who I think is far past his most productive days--too great a sacrifice for a greatly enhanced shot at a title with Kidd, the premiere PG of this era, running the show? Kidd is worth a dozen Stackhouses, even at his age.

Boy, they are just plain box of rocks stupid!

I am pleased with the news. I can't stand Stack's poor shot selection.
I hope it skill Devin trade for awfully old players forever.

They need to extend the period to one season, 30 days is way too short and could lead to shady deals like this one.

Detroit did exactly this with Elden Campbell a few years back.

But the Nets signed him during the 30 day. He played terrible, and the Nets released him after a few weeks, and Detroit signed him back and used him in the playoffs (mainly as a big body and 6 fouls to go against Shaq).

I'm sure there are other cases.

Dallas should just sign Van Horn to a contract equivalent to the numbers of George and Stackhouse and throw him in the deal instead.

Harris for Kidd was too much as Dallas would be getting the 2008 Kidd, not the Hall of Fame Kidd. And Kidd has never won a championship, putting him on the Dallas Nets would not make a difference.

Howard.......Jerrerfon
Dirk............Carter
Dampier......Magliore
Kidd............Kidd

Then on top of that, they lose Diop? 2 picks? Cash? That's icing on the cake for NJ. Then Stack finally pushed it over for Cuban.
