Everyone talks about the Laker Gasol trade causing an "arms race" triggering moves by other Western powerhouse teams like the Suns picking up Shaq, Dallas going after Kidd, etc. Everyone ignores the move the Jazz have made in picking up Korver. Since picking up Korver the Jazz have the best record in the Western Conference.

Cuz Korver isnt a star

Perhaps because Krover is a solid, but unspectacular, bench player averaging ~25 minutes a game, while Shaq and Gasol are considered stars?

I like Korver, but he is hardly the sole reason that the Jazz have played this well of late...he's a complimentary piece on a team with plenty of high-end talent.

Shaq was a star. Now he is a shell of his old self and injured and not even playing right now. Korver brings a high basketball IQ and something the Jazz were short on, clutch shooting and 3-point shooting.

Hey, I like Korver, and I'm glad we got him...he's actually made a huge difference, particularly as a guy who can hit free throws in the closing moments. To use a football analogy, he's like a big running back who just keeps eating up 3-4 yards a carry and running down the clock.

But the fact is, it's not like the Lakers were sitting around, thinking "You know...we could pick up Gasol for 40 cents on the dollar, but I'm still not really sold on i--what? The Jazz just traded for Kyle Korver? ZOMG, we're doomed! Quick, let's panic and acquire a 19/9 big man on the cheap!"

That seemed to be the attitude of George Karl when the Jazz picked up Korver. Now they want to pick up Artest, Cassell, and Mike Miller.

Korver trade is an odd trade because it made both teams better.

Sixers are playing much better without him. It gave them a chance to get Thadeus Young out there and they've saved a ton of money by trading Korver.

Jazz are obviously playing better since they got him.

so he made one team better by leaving and he made another team better by arriving. weird.

i doubt Denver and everyone else are trying to stock up because Utah got Korver. It was Gasol, Shaq, Kidd (almost), and probably all of Denver's injuries that has a guy like George Karl freaking out.

it was a good deal for Philly and for Utah. it's almost more like Giricek gave Utah such a negative atmosphere and they look so much more positive since he's gone.

Karl was freaking out when the Jazz first got Korver and made comments to reflect that.

I remember that. It was on TNT. Marv asked Karl what was up, and Karl said "I'm freaking out!"

I'm now "everyone"? Thank you, I'm flattered.

I haven't ignored it, myself. I've brought up Utah's recent success and improvement from the last month or so, a few times. Korver being a key part of that.

He fits very well there, and dug it for Utah when it happened

Basketball fans know it was a good deal. I saw him kill the Rockets a couple weeks ago. I mean there was no Yao but we destroyed the Jazz in Utah earlier in the season before he got there. He was the difference in the win in Houston.

This would be much more impressive if a Jazz fan didn't make the thread....
