I was anticipating the dunk contest this year almost as much as the 2000 dunk contest because I saw Moon's youtube video of that behind the freethrow line dunk. At first, I didn't believe it, and that if he could indeed pull it off, it would be a mark of human achievement... Man on the Moon, Discovery of fire, etc. I really came out in the end disappointed. Does anybody think it was all fake? Even on the first missed attempt, he crossed the freethrow line. I almost feel cheated. If Moon can in fact do it, I hope he puts it on youtube to make up for the failure at the dunk contest.

Well, it seemed like the hoop on the youtube video was a bit short.

next time don't have jason kapono lob you the basketball.

whats funny to me is that you can do a free throw line dunk with your left hand, off a bounced lob pass.....and everyone shrugs it off and the judges give you 8's.

isn't that a mark in human achievement? that a free throw line dunk is looked at as an everyday occurrence?

MJ & Dr J both had their heels on the line.

josh smith did a legit windmill free throw line dunk a couple years back and everyone was disappointed because of the whole tape ordeal.

The dunk was still nice, but it's not any more speical than Dr. J's or MJ's. We all expected him to take off a foot behind the line.

Anyone else think that if Moon didn't put the tape on the court, he would have advanced over Gerald Green? I thought his dunks were more impressive than Green's.

let's be honest....everyone wanted Dwight Howard to win from the get-go.

i think Moon could've done it if he didn't bother to put tape....that wasted too much time

he didn't have enough momentum upon liftoff, and the psychological aspect didn't help, as i'm sure he was probably a little more intimidated by his surroundings than some of the other players who had been there before, or have had such spotlight on them

either way, it doesn't take away from his dunking credibility, that he didn't do it....it's just disappointing that he didn't get it done

it was a first for this year...
and a result of both chris anderson and nate robinson (who took about 16 attempts last year)

hopefully they keep the same thing from now on. its a far better idea than unlimited attempts, or even a certain amount of attempts (because then you gotta determine what's an attempt and what's not...etc).

I don't think Moon could ever do the dunk, it was all hype. At least Dwight hasn't built up a bunch of fake hype like Moon and Gay did. Gay's my boy from his days at UCONN, but after all the talk he did he had some boring dunks. But maybe he just didn't realize the others were bringing such strong material early, same for Moon's first dunk perhaps.

This is how far James White took off as well in his "freethrow dunk". Yes, MJ took off further but Moon did it with a lob,using his left hand. He jumped with his left foot, he prolly would've extended further if the lob was thrown better and used his right hand.

I'm sorry but there's no freaking way the dunk should go lower than 9. He deserves it over Gerald Green. GG basically has two dunks: a windmill and a between the leg. He's been doing that for two years...

Human achievement or not, I thought that was one of the more impressive dunks tonight, along with dwight's backboard bounce dunk and the superman dunk.

I think another reason why he got lower grades was that he made the dunk on the second attempt. I mean i could almost feel the disappointment of Dwight when he couldnt make the first attempt of his behind the basket dunk.

Those guys put the limit very high tonight and i felt that Rudy gave up very soon when he butchered his first attempt. You just lose the magic of the moment, even though the attendance know what dunk you try anyway.

Yea I know, it was impressive. It didn't have the immediate wow factor that make you snap your fingers though. I jumpped barefooted before and I also played soccer on barefeet. They kinda hurt. When he landed, it actually made me cringe a little cuz it looked painful.

I was disappointed that Moon didn't go through because I think he was going to save his best for the last round.

The ONLY reason Moon didn't get a higher score is because he put a piece of tape a foot behind the free throw line. Everyone was expecting him to take off from there. When he took off a good 2 feet closer, obviously everyone was disappointed, hence the score. I don't see what is so hard to believe about that.
