Which players are not marketed enough?

Post#1 » by Chief » Sun Feb 17, 2008 9:46 pm

After reading that Amare has dumped his managers for the fourth time because he feels he isnt being marketed enough , i got to thinking are there any players out there that dont get enough air time/endorsements etc etc that would help the NBAs popularity ?

Dwight Howard comes to mind the most ..

Flopping aside, I find Ginobili to be one of the most exciting players in the NBA pretty much the moment he entered yet he hardly gets pub.

Josh Howard
Tyson Chandler
Pau Gasol
Jose Calderon
Zydrunas Ilgauskas
Richard Hamilton (LOCK OF THE WEEK)

That's a start, I suppose. All have marketable things about them (albeit Z less so but he is the second-best player on LeBron's team...) and all have received basically no push.

Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

None of them are marketable, though. They aren't bringing the "hype" and all that stuff the media wants. Too bad, too. I agree with MOST of the list, but take off Calderon and Ilgauskas.

Are you kidding? Those lame Sprite commericals hopefully put a rest to his "I hope to be MJ in all forms of life (including ads)" goal.

The NBA needs help marketing certain players in order to increase the league's popularity? That's news to me.

And Amare sounds like a spoiled, greedy brat if a $13.7 million a year NBA salary is just too paltry that he fires agents for not "marketing" him properly.

Chris Paul, probably because he plays in New Orleans, where no one cares about basketball.

I'm sure that Gasol is highly marketable in Spain. Ginobli in all Hispanic countries.

Chris Paul and Dwight came to mind last year, but they're getting a lot more recognition now.

teams, not players, need to be marketed..

the NFL doesn't significantly market players, and when they do, it dies down quickly(Reggie Bush)..of course there are some like Peyton Manning, but nothing near the NBA..

if the NBA had marketed the Spurs and Pistons earlier, there wouldn't be the misconception that both teams are "boring" IMO..most people that claim they are boring just say it because that is the general feeling towards those teams..
