Ideas to make the All-Star game competitive.

Post#1 » by jazzfan1971 » Mon Feb 18, 2008 7:14 am

I hate the allstar game, I seriously do. I'd rather watch those guys play HORSE than watch that farce of a game. It'd be a better exhibition of talent for sure.

But, being we HAVE to have an allstar game I was thinking of ways to get the players to actually care about WINNING the freaking game.

Here is my suggestion.

In all future contracts where a bonus is given for participation in the All-Star game, that bonus MUST be tied to winning the All-Star game instead.

So, no grandfathering this in, just bring it along slowly. But, you know that if a teammate or two has hundreds of thousands of dollars riding on a game, you're gonna actually play some defense to help the guy out.

It's a small change, easy to impliment, assuming the Players Union would agree, and I think would result in players giving a crap about winning instead of just looking cool.

Feel free to post your suggestions below.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

It should be Vets vs. Young Guns

young guns = under 5 years NBA experience

Vets= over

Team USA scrimmage game was so much better than any all star game I've seen.

I wanna see something like that during all star games. Defense, intensity, teamwork, plays etc. along with offensive display.
Thank you Bryan Colangelo.

LeBron said that they'd play hard if they got Maybachs as prizes.

How about regardless of record the side that wins gets home court advantage in the finals. For idiots who might misinterpret: the west win, then they get the home court advtg in the finals and vice versa.

Or they could just man up like in the 80s and play for real, without incentive.

I think the fact that the game has turned into a circus is because no one wants to get hurt and its supposed to be a BREAK from the regular season. I know its kinda BS that they dont play hard, but i dont think its not because they arent competitive or they get no reward its because its an over all FUN weekend and the kids love the dunks and all that.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see a competitive game too, i mean why not...this game only happens once a year. during the summer im sure alot of all-star players get together for scrimmages and play super hard, no reason not to right now right? But it is what it is....boring.

Just make everyone on the losing side sit out the first 3 games after the All Star break that would encourage them to play defence.

Exactly, incentives or no incentives it all boils down to the attitudes of these "stars"

Then we'd never stop seeing the "NBA Cares" commercials.

USA versus the world. Hockey style. All the USA guys against the best from around the world...

Kidd/Paul/Iverson
Kobe/Wade
LeBron/Pierce
Anthony/Bosh
Dwight/Duncan/Amare

vs.

Nash/Parker/Calderon
Ginobli/Barbosa
Turkoglu/Peja
Dirk/Gasol
Yao/Dalembert/Illgauskus

the game is just a circus.....and as it stands, guys like Yao, Duncan, West, Boozer don't contribute anything in terms of excitement. Just image having Baron Davis out there too!

I really appreciated D Howard & Rasheed playing D, and D Wade going at Nowitzki (and blocking a critical 3pnts attempt)

@ number 34: I guess the one poster meant it regardless of that team having no all star... the conference benefits because teams that want to win it all want to have that extra piece and the coaches/gms/owner will try to push their players to gain that goodie
