Iverson started wearing it in the playoffs one year due to an injury he had. I guess he liked it, so he kept wearing it after that, and that's when it really started to catch on.

I don't like the arm sleeves either. If I played in the nba, I'd wear a calf sleeve on my left calf. I wouldn't wear any other sleeves, bands, straps, or pads unless I was recovering from an injury.

they are usually some kind of compression sleeve, used mainly by players with existing injuries, or those who have had previous injuries (iverson already being mentioned).
they are supposed to have other benefits, ranging from improving circulation to cutting down on soreness/swelling and recovery time. but im not sure on how effective they are at that. regardless though, they do have some kind of benefit, so why not where them? especially over the grueling 82+ game nba season, with all the nagging injuries/soreness that comes with it.

I thought it was to prevent scratches and stuff. I figured with Iverson cause he is always driving.

nope.
he has a bursa sac in his right elbow that always gets hit and needs to be drained occasionally. so he has padding there, and the sleeve to keep it in place. melo's the same on his left arm. not sure whats up with kobe/bron.

i heard that iverson's was because he had tatoos that the league wanted him to cover up. Everyone else probably just wears them becasue they think it looks good.

kobe is wearing it probably to improve the circulation and cut down the swelling on his pinky finger.
