hypothetical expansion draft

Post#1 » by asdfgh » Tue Feb 19, 2008 3:51 am

Here's a game we could play. If there was an expansion draft in the NBA right now, who would be the 8 players your team would protect? If you would like to list the remaining 4-7 on your roster that you would leave unprotected as well, that would be great.
So lets start!

Is this in this off season?

Do Free Agents count?

Am I thinking too much into this?

1. Deng
2. Gordon
3. Hinrich
4. Tyrus
5. Noah
6. Thabo
7. Gray
8. Joe Smith
---
9. Nocioni
10. JamesOn Curry

The last two are under the scenario that Gordon and Deng don't require protection.

We'd definitely lose Humphries then, I might gamble with Ford and hope the new team is wary of his health.

MagicFan3, why protect Rashard? No expansion team would want his contract - view it as getting to keep nine.

Well as it stands now, I'd gladly trade him for expirings and young assets (players with 2-3 years left on rookie contract and/or first round picks).

He is overpaid as a backup to the position that our best player plays. He therefor plays out of position most of the time. He is a bit of a chucker, and his defense, while not lacking in effort isn't that good.

Now supposedly we might be losing Gordon anyways, making the desire to clear that room somewhat less desireable, but if that was the case, I'd still look to move him before 2010 to get under the cap.

While I portrayed him negatively, he would be great on a team that has a window within the new few years. But our realistic window is a little later, and I don't see him going with that at that time.

I love Nocioni for his hustle. He's just not a strong fit.

Kings:

1. Kevin Martin
2. Mikki Moore
3. Spencer Hawes
4. Francisco Garcia
5. John Salmons
6. Beno Udrih
7. Quincy Douby
8. Ron Artest

Leaves: Kenny Thomas, Brad Miller, Shareef, the incoming hawks

I put Brad down because the Kings would gladly give his contract away to speed up their ger under the cap plan. Kept Artest protected with the plan that the kings might be able to bet back a pick or prospect for him.
did not protect incoming hawks because I did not want to look up their contracts

If I'm a Heat fan do I need to protect eight players?

Keep Wade, Haslem, Marion, Wright, and whoever we draft this year. The rest be damned.

i think i would protect humphries and not kapono. Mainly because hump has very good contract and the expansion team might be scared to touch kapono's

It's hard to say what Portland would do. They would probably try to keep the rookie contracts. I don't know which of the three point guards they would leave unprotected. My guess:

Keep;
Greg Oden
Brandon Roy
LaMarcus Aldridge
Travis Outlaw
Martell Webster
Channing Frye
Sergio Rodriguez
Steve Blake

Free:
Jarrett Jack
Joel Przybilla
James Jones (player option)
Taurean Green
Josh McRoberts
Raef LaFrentz
Darius Miles

No matter who they protect, there are some possibilities for the expansion team.
