I'm not sure if there is a thread on this or not....but if the Spurs get Artest you have to believe they would be the favorites once again. This would be huge for the Spurs if this deal goes down. And it would only cost them Elson, Barry, and a pick. Wow is all I can say if this deal went down.

spurs panicked as well knowing all the west teams are improving , nuggets and hornets are next

I already picked the Spurs to win the championship. if this happens, it will only make my pick even more stronger and it will be over for everyone else.

What would they trade to get Artest? Barry and Elson? Barry and Horry? Barry and Finley? Oberto, Bonner and Udoka?

What would Sacramento accept back?

It'll be tough to work out a trade and San Antonio really needs to keep Finley and Barry around... and Elson represents frontcourt depth... and anything else would be unacceptable to the Kings in terms of return value.

If this happens and Pops/Buford don't screw the Spurs' depth, it's a genius deal.

we would easily be the favorites though, since we're already contenders without a big name trade like LA, Phoenix and Dallas pulled off..nobody is panicking..it's an opportunity to get a good trade..it probably won't even happen..

it would be funny if we could pull it off, considering Pop's jokes about LA getting Gasol..

I think he'll stay a King or go to Denver..but this would be great..one of my favorite players on my favorite team..I dare any swingman in the NBA to go 48 minutes against Artest and Bowen..

Barry is expandable, but I agree that we can't trade Barry AND Finley..we still have Finley, Ginobili, Stoudamire, Udoka and Bowen as our shooters though, if Barry is gone, which is necessary for the trade..

Giving up Elson + Barry + picks is hardly panicking for a guy like Artest. Not sure if this is a ploy by Sac to get Denver to throw in Kleiza though.Don't be shocked if it's Denver ending up with him.

That's ugly financially, and even worse if it includes picks. I can't see the Spurs sacrificing their future flexibility for a one-year rental of Artest; they remain legit contenders even without him. Kenny Thomas' contract is ugly as sin at 2 years after this at about $8M a year.

That would be AWFUl with picks. The second trade would be less ugly but still unpalatable because you're giving up Barry and not keeping Artest for very long AND taking back a longer contract.

yes and no. while he does give the spurs 6 fouls, he has been next to totally useless this year. hes regressed in almost every area. he looks lost on the defensive end, and is a bit of a black hole on offense (if he touches the ball, hes going to shoot it). hes out of the rotation most nights, and if all we are looking for is 6 fouls, bonner is ready, willing, and able...

while the percentages show that, you have to factor his injury into things. he tore a muscle in his calf earlier in the year. he sat out 3 weeks, came back, and reaggravated the injury that same week. hes been out ever since (coming up on a month out now). barry is 36 years old, and this injury could very well linger for the rest of the year. and hes definetly not our best shooter when the playoffs roll around. last year, he shot 30% from 3 in the post season, and was sitting many game. finley is probably much more important to the spurs playoff rotation than barry is.

True but Elson is a better rebounder and since he's taller, longer and quicker, he's more intimidating to a slasher, even if he's totally useless at stopping the drive or altering the shot, it's just perception. Bonner's shorter.

A more important player, Finley certainly is, but last year is hardly an indication; what about when he shot 42.4% for the '05 title? Or 50% in 05-06? Last year was an outlier, not an indicator of his annual production. He undoubtedly laid an egg last year but that's not how he traditionally performs in the playoffs and you know it well enough.

If the Spurs get Artest....Kobe might as well have his surgery. Won't make a difference. All the teams in the West have been making moves to get to the Spurs level. Now in one shot the champs can one up everyone again.

The idea would be to re-sign Ron, which the Spurs could easily do.

If so they would be at probably like $67millionish next year, with salary committed to Parker, Ginobili, Artest, Duncan, Bowen, Thomas, Udoka and Oberto. That's 8 guys, with a lineup that would probably look like...

Bring Splitter over, sign this year's pick (since the Kings wouldn't get it if the Spurs took Kenny), sign a backup PG for cheap (just as an example, say they re-sign Stoudamire for the LLE or something), and a couple other vet. min. guys (ring chasers) to fill out the roster.
