CAVS new lineup

Post#1 » by joe.linnen » Fri Feb 22, 2008 6:45 pm

I would like to see them try this out for size:

SF:James
PF:Varejao
C:Wallace
SG:Szczerbiak
PG:Gibson

You have your shooters in Gibson and Szczerbiak and you have two big men that could run the floor. James could still run the show putting up number like 30/9/8.

Why should Wallace start over Big Z?

Playing Ben and Andy together would be ignorant, unless it was the last possession of the game and you only need 1 more stop. Neither of them have an offensive game.

Agreed. It would make absolutely no sense. It would stifle their offense.

Yea, I don't think that would work out. It should be like this:

C: Big Z
PF: Wallace
SF: LeBron
SG: Wally
PG: West

Gibson is out for 4-6 weeks, but nonetheless, you bring him off the bench as a sparkplug, ICLO. Delonte is more versatile and a better defender; that's what you want in the starting lineup considering you've got a defensive sieve at the 2 (Wally).

This should be an improved Cavs team nonetheless.

I would let Andy start and Wallace come of the bench with Z starting at center. Wallace isn't better than Andy at this point in his career.

As much as I don;t like Wallace, I think this lineup is their best bet with mix of offense and defense.

West
Wally
Lebron
Wallace
Big Z

This is what you will see probably for most of the rest of the season.

Smith and Varejao get the backup 4/5 position and would be really really solid and both compliment each other nicely.

well this is not a great point but ben's contract is way too big to let him come off the bench

@ cliff levingston: oh my bad, I didn't know that. what kind of injury does he have?

Smith should be above Ben Wallace on the depth chart. Smith is the better offensive player, and the better defensive player. The media keeps saying that the Cavs got a good deal because they got Wallace and Wally, but Smith and West were steals. Cavs fans are gonna love good ole Joe (or, as we Bulls fans started calling him, God).

I personally would go with:

Gibson/West
Szczerbiak/Brown
LeBron/Pavlovic
Varejao/Smith
Illgauskus/Wallace

Mike Brown though will probably go with West over Gibson and Wallace over Varejao for defensive purposes

I like the West/Wally/Lebron/Smith/Z with Gibson, Varejao, and wallace being the main guys off the bench. Varejao is better off the bench in my opinion. He and Gibson would give a lot of energy off the bench. Wallace is a toss up right now.

Delonte West should start. The dude is brutal to play against.

Gibson should be a nice 3pt spark off the bench whenever he comes back.

Do people think Wallace is able to guard KG, Howard and Bosh? I think he would struggle against those types of players, so it should be Varejao or Smith starting at PF. Wallace at this stage should only be a back up center.

I voted yes on accident. I'd start West, Szczerbiak, Lebron, Wallace and Z. I picked Wallace because he's a good weakside defender to play off of Z. Lebron also needs to be surrounded by shooters, West & Szerbiak should be in without question. I'd use the quicker guys off the bench, get some bench scoring from Boobies, Sasha and Smith.

When fully healthy I think we should look like this:
West - Boobie - Snow
Pavlovic - Wally - Jones
LBJ - Devin Brown
Varejao - Smith
Z - Big Ben - Jones

I think Sasha will eventually start because he's a better defender than Wally. He was just starting to find his rhythm before he got injured. Varejao plays a similar role as Wallace and is better at it at this point in his career. Plus he has a better offensive game. He was hitting jumpers at a great clip and scored in the post a little bit before he got injured.

Gibson 48% 3FG
West 34% 3FG
