Was just wondering about this in regards to the Kidd situation.

Say Kidd retires in 3-4 years, etc. I'd have to imagine that the Nets would want to retire his jersey, due to the massive contributions he's made, and the fact that he's probably the best player in the history of the franchise.

But what if Dallas wanted to retire his number as well? Is there anything prohibiting two teams from both retiring the jersey of the same player?

No, Miami retired Michael Jordans jersey out of respect even though he never played for them.
