US vs. World All-Star Game

Post#1 » by Toronto BC 07 » Sat Feb 23, 2008 6:35 pm

I wrote an article earlier today on how boring All-Star weekend is as a whole and some changes I would make.

Here's a little snippet:

Change the All-star game itself...It is hard for an All-Star game of any sport to garner much attention, but the NBA can make a quick and easy fix. Change the format from East vs. West to USA vs. World.

For the entire read, http://hoopsaddict.com/2008/02/23/nba-newsflash-all-star-edition/

Would you guys prefer a USA vs World format, or are you content with the current format (East vs West)?

if the all-stars are forced to actually play unlike in the Olympics, then this game isn't competitive.

C- Howard/Kaman
PF- Duncan/Amare/ Boozer
SF- Lebron/Carmelo
SG- Kobe/Hamilton
PG- Davis/Paul/Iverson

East vs. West is far more competitive. This isn't hockey where the talent is equal between North America and the World.

World would most likely look like

C- Yao/Okur
PF- Dirk/Gasol
SF- Deng/ AK47/Hedu
SG- Manu/ Barbosa
PG- Nash/Calderon/Parker

Pass, that's just risking injury for the US players from all the flopping to result from the likely World team.

There is no need for each individual of a team to be better than each individual of the opposing team to form a better team. There's what they call "team play". Key word here is "team", as you probably noticed by the number of times it has appeared in this post.

And by the way, I don't agree with the "Spain > US" poster, but you just made no sense.

Well, I read the U.S. vs. The World part of your article and your argument is pretty weak. You say its an easy fix but you make no mention of how it would make things more interesting at all. You just go on and say theres enough international talent and how Toronto would be a good place to host such an event because its an international city.

Also Tim Duncan is from the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Well these international teams...Spain, Argentina, ect. have played with each other for years and an international team would have no such experience with playing with each other.

They'll end up spending half the game getting a feel of each other and it will be no different from East/West...

My fault on the Duncan thing, but come on, it would be more interesting.

Are you guys not tired of seeing East vs West every season? Maybe it is just me. lol.

USA vs world?

The Detroit Pistons by themselves can beat the world all star team.

It would not be more interesting. If you want that kind of stuff, watch the Olympics. That would be incredibly boring, and incredibly lop-sided.

Honestly the U.S. would run away with it. If you saw the All-Star game you can tell theres some good chemistry with James-Kidd-Howard-Bosh-Wade from playing on the Team USA for the past 2+ summers.

The international players you're throwing together wouldn't have any chemistry to build on. And the international fan interest would be nothing like standing behind your country's team in the Olympics and FIBA games.

Lol, you have no idea what your talking about.

Flopping no longer has any nationality or region affiliation. Everyone does it, Americans are no different. Its part of the game sadly.

I would love to see it. It would definitely make the all-star game more interesting.

I'd like to see it happen, it would be an interesting game. Although I do think the World team would win it, unlike other people.

There were a lot of deserving snubs this year....changing it to a US/World format would only increase the number of players who deserved(Deron/Baron) to make the All-Star team but didn't, and we'll get players like Boris Diaw making the All-Star team.

Does anyone really want to see that?
