Celtics, then the Rockets, then the Pistons, then the Spurs.

The Rockets this entire year have played very solid defense. The point deal is inflated, they hold opposing teams to terrible percentages. The Celtics similarly hold their opponents to terrible shooting nights. Neither the Rockets nor Celtics have really been lit up at all this season out side of 1 or 2 games.

The Spurs defense is still great, but its slipping. The Pistons play the same, hard nosed defense they always have. If the refs call a lot of fouls, they are in trouble, but mostly they just do a really good job, their guards and Prince in particular.

Celtics are number one. Then it gets debatable after that. I would take the Pistons followed by the Spurs.

No way we can be the best defensive team even when Bynum and Ariza come back.
Take the Celtics as example, on defense alone
Rondo>Fisher
Allen<<<Kobe
Pierce=Odom
KG>>>Bynum
Perkins>>Gasol

Bench
Posey>Ariza
T.Allen>Sasha
Davis/Powe=Turiaf/Mbenga
House=Farmar

Plus they play way more physical than us

Rondo= Fisher (one is physical defense, the other is just reaching in ala Smush Parker)
Allen<< Kobe
Pierce= Odom
Garnett>> Gasol
Perkins<< Bynum

Bench:
House= Farmar
Posey> Sasha
T.Allen< Ariza
Davis/Powe<Turiaf/Mbenga

Why is Houston up there? I've never thought that they were particularily hard to score on. They played better defense under JVG than they do now IMHO.

You can go over to ESPN and check their defensive stats... then you'll see why.

Well you can look at the stats, watch them play, or notice that they've held 9 of their last 10 opponents under 90 points, none of whom shot better than 45% from the field.

Well they're giving up 92.4 points per game (4th best in the league) on 43.6 FG% which would be second in the league. Not as good as it was under Van Gundy but still among the best in terms of statistics at least. And recently it's been even better.
