Who is the most physical team in the NBA?

Post#1 » by Malone Strong » Mon Feb 25, 2008 6:30 pm

I read the thread for the softest team in the NBA. I quite enjoyed it...good conversation. It naturally begs the question "who is the most physical team in the NBA"?

Thoughts?

Definitely not Boston, if they were more physical they'd be undefeated.

First that springs to mind are the Nuggets, especially when Nene is in the lineup (next to K-Mart? ouch). Certainly not great defensively (probably as a result of coaching schemes), but physical, yes.

Pistons come to mind when Im thinking of the toughest teams in the league.
Probably Spurs as well.

Easily the Spurs are the most physical. Other than Floppo Ginobili.

Jazz. They grind their way through games.

Spurs and Pistons in terms of overall balance

Boozer's monster post ups singlehandedly put the Jazz up on their level as well

What defines physical? How much contact you're allowed to get away with?

We've all had to play against a person we hate to guard, or hate to have them guard us. There is pushing, slapping, fouling, holding, bumping with the waist, everything. I personally love the physical game, its the only way I could compete when I played to compensate for a lack in size/ability. Physical players get in your head....they render your athletic superiority useless because you dont even want to do your thing against them.

Harpring and Artest come to mind.

So my vote is Jazz, Spurs, Kings. I hate playing the Kings.

^ Oh, and I do not believe dribbling into the lane, throwing up your shoulder to bump the guy defending you, and then falling on your ass constitutes physical play. That is under the "flopping" category. So Manu G does not count (although AI does this too, he counts because he is physical as, well...just happens to flop alot.)

^ Dude Manu is easily one of the toughest guys in the NBA, the amount of cheap shots he cops every game is crazy. If you watched the NO game he got popped twice in the head after the whistle had already gone as he drove the lane. He is constantly hammered when he drives the lane, whether or not you respect him, he is easily one of the toughest guys in the game today. He might flail his arms a bit but he cops just as many hits.

I think it has to be the Jazz followed closely by the Pistons. I actually take points away from the Kings and the Spurs because of their propensity to spontaneously fall down.

Nobody is arguing you dont have to be tough to be a good flopper...
