What will the Lakers do if Bynum and Gasol can't play next to one another? (i.e sort of like how Randolph and Curry can't in New York)

Would they bring Bynum off the bench in that case?

Bynum will compliment Gasol very well. Everyone knew Curry and Randolph wouldn't work since the trade went down except for the homer Knicks fans.

If it doesn't work, then yes, they are doing well as it is and Bynum could just come off the bench.

Eh I doubt that will happen. Gasol is more of a finesse player, Bynum is a power player, logically they should fit well together.

I would go like this

begin the game with kobe and gasol.

when kobe goes to rest keep gasol in there.

when kobe comes back in put him with bynum and rest gasol.

In the 4th quarter depending on the opposing team put either bynum or gasol with kobe. Like if we face the warriors we put Bynum in because they lack size. If we face post presence like Spurs or Houston put gasol in to spread the floor.

Bynum - a classic back-to-the-basket big, plays down low.
Gasol - a classic midrange, passing big, who can take his man off the dribble.

Problem solved.

Well if Bynum and Gasol morph into Curry and Randolph - as that is what would have to happen for them to not be able to play against one another - it's no big deal really.

Kobe will just play at a level Prime Jordan wishes he could have and the Lakers will be on their merry way.

I think Odom should become the 6th man and start Bynum/Pau and rotate those 3 between the front line depending on the matchups.

Bynum is a better rebounder and banger than Gasol. Gasol is similar to Odom in that he doesn't have to dominate the basketball and his passing skills are going to get Bynum some easy looks. I don't see the chemistry problem that others think the Lakers are going to have incorporating Bynum back in the mix........

Yeah, I don't think we'll see any problem between the two. Gasol has an underrated midrange jumper and is a great passer, which make him a threat even when he's on the highpost.

You know what the title of this thread should have said .

How scary the Lakers can get when Bynum returns to the lineup with Pau and Kobe .

I would cross the genes from Pau and Bynum, and genetically produce a Super Center who can have a mid range shot, take his defender off the dribble, or back him in and throw it down in his face. Today the NBA... Tomorrow.. the world.

the reason that bynum/pau will never be randolph/curry is that bynum is great without the ball. eddy curry is useless unless he has the ball. randolph, unfortunately, isn't good at getting him the ball cause he's a terrible passer. gasol is a great passer and even while gasol is working it offensively, bynum can crash the glass (where he was getting a lot of his points). bynum can also grab the defensive boards, protect the paint with his blocking, and basically do everything that renders curry useless.

So when the Lakers are 22-5 after 27 games and Bynum comes back,you would just throw Bynum in the starting lineup even though the team is clicking.

Enraged that we got Gasol? They will complement each other, especially with Kobe in the mix, who do the Knicks have that can handle the ball like Kobe and demands just as much of attention? none.

the lakers are a title contender when they get gasol and bynum on the court together. should the lakers start bynum right away and figure it out in the regular season or do u suggest they start experimenting in the playoffs? i'll go with the former

Another excellent post B-Scott. This is what I am saying. The Lakers are flowing right now, why would you break up the chemistry to just insert Bynum?

DC , I think B-Scott has a point there ...... ( I cant believe I agree with him )
I doubt Phil is going to get Bynum in so quick .
We all know how Phil likes to let a player work his way into the lineup , and like B said I think the team is doing well with the current lineup and to move so quick with Bynum into the lineup might change things up a bit .
