According to a Clippers source, the team will announce today that it is buying out the contract of the 38-year-old guard.
NBA sources indicated that the Celtics, Mavericks, and Nuggets all are prepared to make Cassell an offer once he clear waivers in 48 hours. All three teams have their biannual exceptions available to give to Cassell (a maximum of $1.83 million) while the Mavs have their full mid-level available ($5.356 million) and Denver has $2.356 of its mid-level. The Celtics have spent all of their mid-level.
So who do you guys think he will choose? Mavs, Nuggz, Cavs or C's?

He would be silly not to pick the Celtics, I think. It is the easiest road to the Finals. Plus, with the Celtics he could play 20-25 minutes a night and they

The guy is 39 years old. Does it matter? It's like depending on the crypt-keeper to win you a game.
Besides that, he's a cancer-type of a player, who is demanding play-time over younger players. Just retire you old bastard.

actually...now that i think about it....what if he signs on for the rest of this season with Cleveland?
i think that is an intriguing thought

Celtics. They need a backup PG, he's 38, they're in position to win a title, perfect fit.

Nuggets or Celtics.

I'm not sure if it would be a good idea for Sam to go to such a high-paced and frantic team (the Nuggets - who are 1st in pace). Plus, I don't think he would get nearly as much time with the ball in Denver, with Anthony and Iverson both needing the ball to be effective.
Boston just seems like the most reasonable destination with Pierce, Allen and Garnett all being players who don't mind others dominating the ball.

The Cavs should make a push to get him, but I expect him to go to the Celts.

Didnt he say he was going to sign with the Nuggets after his contract was up to learn the ropes of being a head coach under his favorite coach of all time George Karl? He would probably start for the Nuggets seeing how Anthony Carter is currently their starter and Chucky Atkins cant stay healthy. Nuggets would really benefit from his leadership and floor general capabilities.
I think the wisest choice for him to make would be the Nuggets, and the Nuggets would be wise to make sure they get him, I think he would really be the missing piece.

I was always under the impression that he would automatically go to the Celtics. It's pretty weak though that he quits on the team and still gets a check. And then goes to sign with a contender.

Knicks, needs to see first if this organization is a joke, but obviously he will, so he will try to find the next team to make him green nearby, and that is the celtics.
