Best way to actually balance the leagues talent?

Post#1 » by Sanjan » Wed Feb 27, 2008 3:50 pm

I think that the lottery should include only the teams with the worst record. So basically the west would take on young new talent for the first few years but in the long haul the worst teams would get the best talent in the draft (well in theory at least).

What do you think? Is there a better way?

Only best records is simply bad for business, but a team thats playing 600 ball and doesn't make the playoffs doesn't make sense. I bet over 5 years my way would work out.

But then how to you determine who is actually the worst team? All they would have to do is tank games to lose the most... ala Celtics, Bucks last year and Heat this year.

hmmmm, I think the best thing to do is for the playoffs drop the east west thing and just do top 16 teams.

Only one team can have the "worst" record, so you're saying a lottery of one team for the top pick? If that's not what you're saying, then how do you determine which teams qualify for the draft lottery? It seems like you're basically saying the lottery system should be exactly what it is now. :-?

The East should just get the top 3 picks for the next few years. That will even it out.

The best way imo is to get rid of 4 or 6 teams in the NBA and distribute their players via a random lottery system of some sort. There's too many teams and the talent starts to get stretched thin.

Though Dr. J, Darnell Hillman, and Artis Gilmore's fros got most of the attention, George C. Trapp's fro should be noted for its bouncy qualities.

Let's do a GM/Players poll and let them decide which team is the worst and gets the highest draft pick. Or something like this http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=KezvwARhBIc

the league should stop allowing veteran to buyout their contract and join a contender team right before the playoff
definitely can't allow the Keith Van Horn thing from happening again

The conferences even out over time, in the mid-90s there was a similar situation with teams missing the playoffs in the East that would have made it in the West. The main problem is that the best GMs reside in the West so no matter how many high picks the East gets that advantage is going to keep those teams stacked. When some of those guys move on or East teams at least hire some comparable talent evaluators the situation will even out a lot quicker.

I think the lottery system is fine as is. A team whose ownership actually tries doesn't stay down for long in this league, most perpetually bad franchises are that way because of an unwillingness to spend, not an inability to get some talent.

It's pretty obvious what the OP means, it would be the worst 16 records. That's not how it is at all right now.

If the NBA kept listening to people's propositions to "balance the talent" they would've re-aligned the conferences in the 80s, early 90s, mid 90s, and again around 2001. That's insane, and it's stupid. Just let them even back out the way they always do.
Battling ridiculous homers one incredibly biased argument at a time.

The talent isn't balanced because the GM's aren't balanced

Relieve the East of its poor management and watch the power shift.

+1, despite the fact that it would never happen.

I'd cut:
Memphis
Seattle
Charlotte
Atlanta
Sacramento
Clippers
