Ways to improve the NBA.

Here are my ideas:

1. No more flopping! Im sick of it. Its embarrassing to see 6-10 260lb guys throw themselves on the ground when a pg drives into the lane... Man up, grow a pair, and try and block the damn shot. If a guy flops, dont call it. Although it can be difficult at times to tell, most of the time you know when a guy is acting.

1a. That being said, no more petty calls. Free throws ruin the flow of the game, so if its not a clear foul, dont call it. Touch fouls suck. Oh, and stop calling fouls on the defender when the offensive player jumps into him. Thats annoying.

2. No more complaining about fouls. Its gotten ridiculous. Call a technical every time a player yells at the ref for a "no-call". That will reduce the complaining immediately. Im sick of seeing players complaining to the refs instead of getting back on defense.

2a. Therefore, I think there needs to be a committee in place to review the games and the refs. Hold these guys to a higher standard. And lets see some freakin consistancy. Some of these refs suck.

3. Less teams in the playoffs. 16 teams is a little much. I would like to see 6 teams in each conference, and the top 2 in each get a bye in the first round. So, basically like the NFL playoffs, only we would have series still. And go back to the 5 game series in round 1.

The only other thing that could use improvement is the whole East-West parity, but Im not sure how they would fix that. Maybe the top 14 teams get re-seeded at the end of the regular season...

Let players who want to opt out get off the books.

It makes no sense that the player has to take a pay cut for the team to get cap relief. If a guy wants to get bought out, what's the problem wit dumping his contract? It would help deal with a lot of the albatross contracts in the NBA for older players who want to play on a contender but are stuck on their team because they're untradable. This benefits both the owners and the players, so what's the problem?

I'm sick of the 'touch' fouls as well. I used to think accidentally slapping the hand of the person with the ball was a petty call, but now it's just ridiculous. Some overhaul needs to be done with the Refs in the off season, get them all on the same page (maybe they can do this before the playoffs...yea right).

I don't mind the touch fouls, because they aren't called as much during the playoffs, and they aren't even consistently called during the regular season..the only problem I have with officiating, is the "initiating contact" calls..like the OP said..I hate when the offensive player gets away with that..there are certain players that do it ALL of the time, because they know they can get away with it..I see Chris Paul do it all the time(just an example)..A LOT of players are doing that..

This.

I would love it if the NBA adopted a similar financial structure to football.

The players union will never give this up.

Just flopping seems bad really. I love how Calvin Booth can get 2 fouls off Dwight just because hes a weak flopping ass. The refs bite for it every time.

NBA will never end the guaranteed contracts

as long as the players union exists...

I'm not a big fan of flopping either

1.More drug testing
2.Outlaw back to back games
3. Schedule more weighted with teams in your division.
4. Reduce ECvWC games by having only games vs 2 of the divisions on a rotation basis.
5. Max # of yrs in contract to 4

Take a cue from the NFL when it comes to national coverage. This means more balanced. Miami has had a nauseating amount of nationally televised games this year, while I have yet to see New Orleans or Utah outside of when they've played the Wolves. This also means regional coverage. Take tomorrow night, not everyone cares to see DEN @ LAC. It might be nice to give those out east PHI @ GS.
