Boston will finally have some championship experience with the ball handler and have another ring holder besides Posey. Good pickup by Boston, it was just what they needed. Now they just have to perform.

Seriously though, I want to see Cassell in a Celtics jersey first before I rejoice. There have been too many false reports on this subject lately.

thats pathetic, what a ring chaser. Go to a team where you will make a difference like the Nuggets, dont go to a team where you can just jump on there coat tails and let them drag you to another ring.

I have lost all respect for that E.T. looking fool. PATHETIC.

Maybe He wanted to goto a team he might be able to win a championship with. Whats the point of taking a paycut to sign with a team that has little chance to do so.

Also, Cassell is 38. He is a 20-30 minute play on any given night. He is perfect compliment to Rondo at PG. Boston makes a lot more sense for him than Denver.

1 week ago, I had it in my mind he would come back to Houston.....

Good pickup for the C's

Good move on both parts. Boston needs a point guard. Cassell wants to win another ring. He can get good, meaningful minutes there and really propel them to the top.

Where he might hurt them is on defense where Sammy is a bit lacking, but since the Celtics are already so good in that department, the difference probably won't be that noticeable.

Should be interesting if it actually happens.

Cassell/Rondo
Allen/House
Pierce/Posey
Garnett/Davis/Powe
Perkins/Brown

Is that depth I see?

I don't get why a team would buy a player out like that. I wouldn't do it as an owner of a team.

averaging team age of the Celts with Cassell = 28.5

This sucks for the rest of the East because the Celts just got better. Cassell isn't what he was 2 years ago in the playoffs, but he will contribute nicely with the attention the "Big 3" draw.

That is, if he truly is going to be a Celtic.

personally, i'm waiting for something for something a little more solid than a boston globe blog. the clippers board has been littered of false reports of a cassell buyout since the trade deadline, inluding premature articles from the globe. that being said i wouldn't be surprised if it's true finally.

Why not? It saves him $2.1M that was going down the drain for nothing and Cassell wasn't going to be happy there. It will also give the Clippers a good repuation for how they treat players, which can only help them in the free agent market.

cassell has/had about $2 million owed to him from the clippers. i'm not surprised at all that sterling didn't trade him in order to save a chunk of that $2 mil. as sad as that is.

Really? If you were one of the worst teams in the league and you have a player who wont help you anyway and you owe him 6 million and could get out from under that 6 by paying him 3-4 million , why wouldnt you.

Of course its pro-rated - so those figures are an example. But the bottomline is if you are an owner and your team is lotto bound and you can save money , why not?

It saves the owner money, in this case since it was Sterling it was almost a bigger story that he didn't want to buy Cassell out and save money.

Completely forgot.

So the team's biggest weakness, depth or lack thereof, suddenly turns out to be one of their strengths. Amazing.
