The Friday edition of the Dallas Morning News is reporting that Dirk Nowitzki saw the comments made by San Antonio guard Tony Parker.

Read them. Digested them. Then dismissed them like they had come from another Charles Barkley or Bill Walton.

It was Parker who said he was a big fan of the Jason Kidd trade because it meant he wouldn't have to get hassled on defense by Devin Harris anymore, nor would he have to guard one of the few point guards who can match Parker's quickness.

"I saw that," Nowitzki said of Parker's comments. "I guess we'll just have to wait and see. We like our chances against anybody. That's how you got to look at it in the West. Everybody's so tough, and it's so tight that you got to be able to beat anybody."

Then Nowitzki couldn't help himself. He had to slip in a little sarcasm about Parker.

"Ultimately, they're still the champions, so whatever he says is going to be right because they've won three or four [titles]," Nowitzki said. "They're still the team to beat.

I know why Tony feels that way (especially since he's right about Harris being a great foil for him and Diop the same for Duncan), but he probably shouldn't have commented on this publicly.

Yes its a mistake. Every other team got bigger while Dallas got smaller.

last night was the first Mavs game i had watched end to end since the Kidd trade...They looked very fluid on offense, he was setting up Brandon Bass and Dirk like there was no tomorrow, and Howard found himself so open at times that he didnt know what to do, he just froze up...so i was impressed, and i will have to retract a small portion of my comments regarding the trade...however, I still feel that NJ got the better deal, I still think that this trade will make a more significant and long lasting effect on the Nets than the Mavs...the Mavs have a time table now, they are staring down the barrel of a two season window IMO...after this season they MIGHT have 2 more full seasons to strike and make it count, otherwise it's game over...

I don't know why people are jumping on Tony, half the league said the same stuff when Shaq got traded to the Suns. Tony is talking from experience. he has never had problems VS J Kidd, but Devin has always had his number. It's a fair enough statement.

I think Harris is the main winner here as he has the chance to be an All-Star in the East for years to come, although he loses the competition of being in one of the West big teams.

Yeah because t he Mavericks lost by 3 to the Spurs yesterday because Avery pulled another excellent coaching move by going away with what works in favor of trying to be the hero by running some dumb lineup on the floor...

Kidd isn't a shooter but he makes things happen, that's why Avery not playing him in the end of the game was just stupid.

But anyway... The loss of Diop will hurt the Mavs I still think they improved by acquiring Kidd though.

This was one of those rare trades where I think both teams improved in the short run.

JKidd looked really good distributing the ball last night, and it was impressive to see the benefits he gives to a formerly iso offense. Their motion on offense was so much better. So I think this trade might be ok for them, although it's hard to discount how much it hurts not having a decent backup center in the big west. We'll just have to see what Magluire can give them.

it was a good trade for both teams. Tony Parker has always been a Kidd hater cuz he doesn't get the respect that kidd gets around the league and cuz kidd is real pg a playmaker a hall of famer maybe one day parker. Get a triple double then will talk.

All I can say to this is every one of these trades can only be ultimately judged on what happens in the playoffs.

Parker spoke the truth - from San Antonio's perspective the matchup just got easier. Still, Tony should have been more media savy by now...

I liked the trade from a Lakers perspective too. The Mavs get smaller which is good for Gasol and Bynum and Harris is gone so he doesn't keep our defense on toes as much.

I agree with TP, but that doesn't mean the Mavs aren't a threat to the rest of the NBA anymore..still one of the best teams in the NBA..Kidd has become underrated on RealGM..his shooting is bad, we all know that..but his 3-s are decent..he's the best passer in the NBA..his D has declined, but he can still defend SG's well, and still a great team defender..

Tony might be right in the fact that Harris can give him more trouble defensively. But Harris' impact is nowhere near Kidd's. Kidd is a proven winner, leader, and one of the best PGs of all time. You don't get worse by adding someone like that

I could understand if they were going to be champs already, but they weren't built for the playoffs before anyways. Maybe now they'll be a good playoff team. They got Magloire now. Diop wasn't AMAZING anyways.

I and several others pointed this out orginally when the trade was in place but George blocked the trade, and then again when the trade actually happened.

Tony's right, though.

Harris and Diop were a serious part of their ability and success since 05-06, and specifically, were key guys against the Spurs. Now they're both gone, and Dallas is smaller, less athletic.

Got Kidd, and you gain things with him, but you also lose aspects with Harris that Kidd doesn't have.

Dallas upgraded at PG overall, because Kidd is a better overall PG than Harris - but I don't think Dallas upgraded as a team. I think Dallas got easier to play and beat.

Still are a top team and deep playoff threat, but I think they're around the bottom of title contenders and top teams in the league.

If Avery treats Kidd like he did last night throughout the rest of this season, you'll soon see why most Nets fans couldn't have been happier that he's down in Dallas, cancering up someone else's locker room!!!!

No, it was not a mistake. Dallas did the right thing.

Kidd is still a monster. Dallas pg situation is highly improved. Terry is a good scorer so his adjustment wont be hard. This trade allows Brandon Bass to step up and he will deliver. Dallas got more dangerous in my eyes. Kidd can make that offense much better.

Avery made a terrible mistake (dont really watch the Mavs, but this is the second mistake ive seen him make- No Kidd in final play, and trying to play small ball with us last playoffs was the other). Expect Dirk to make a huge push at MVP...again. Kidd can help Dirk walk to possibly another MVP title.

Last night...i would have given Stack the ball...end of story.
