I'm a Lakers fan but I also am a fan of Yao Ming. I love his game and respect his humility. I just wanted to post this because of how so many people call him soft.

It turns out that according to Chinese media and Houston doctors it has been revealed that Yao Ming played with the injury since NOVEMBER 5th.

I remember earlier in the season how everyone was saying Yao sucked compared to Dwight Howard and everything else. Some even said Yao "regressed".

The guy gets 22 and 11 on a West playoff team playing 3 months with a stress fracture that's pretty damn impressive to me. I don't think fans should ever be calling him soft again and that includes that idiot Stephen A. Smith.

After hearing this Yao is moving up on my favorite players list.

Explains why there was a drop off in production. Coming into this season, I fully expected Yao to declare himself as the best C in the league and produce as well as Dwight.

That's just too bad.

Are we sure he was playing with the stress fracture? I mean, that can be pretty damaging stuff if so.

I've heard of guys playing with stress reactions, which are what lead to stress fractures. Chris Paul did it last year for the second-half of the season. I was under the impression that there could certainly be long-term effects when someone plays with a stress fracture though.

I was surprised at his slight regression in productivity. Next year, Adelman needs to play Yao less because his injury is caused by wear and tear. Yao played 37 minutes per game, which is much higher than 32-33 mpg in the last couple of years. And hopefully, Yao will have all his future summers off (i.e., no more commitments to the Chinese basketball team).

Yao didn't play with fracture since Nov. 6th: just his foot worsend gradually since early this season.

it's really a shame Yao can't get full rest during the summer..this guy would be so **** good if he can just stay healthy, it's starting to annoy me..I feel bad for the guy, he doesn't deserve that..

Mac as well..Grant Hill's injuries, and now Yao..

Apparently, its during Nov. 6 game against Mavericks when Yao landed on Diop's foot.

The doctors are saying Yao had the injury November 5th against Dallas when he fell on Diop's foot and caused this injury in his left ankle.

The injury was known to Yao and the Rockets trainer Keith Jones immediately. However the Rockets trainer Jones mis-diagnosed the injury as bone spurs in his ankle and advised Yao it was fine to play with this for the season and Olympics, then have surgery after the Olympics to remove the bone spurs.

The doctors are stating this is the time when the stress fracture started.

Ppl call yao soft, but this guy is commited to basketball. He has elbow problems and declined to have surgery because it would limit his future game. Dude was playing with ingrowth toe and never cried. Didnt someone in the team say it was the worst thing hes ever seen.
Dude has never cried once and ppl still call this man soft. Ive seen so called guys thats called tough cry for the smallest thing.

I'm not surprise, NBA players Play through the injures all time,this is why one year they have great season, other year they have horrible season.

A warrior. He's never been soft. Guys foul him like it's goin' out of style! Playin' thru injuries on multiple occasions, all while while getting hammered every night makes you soft?!? I never understood that label. Yao's as tough as nails.

lol Speculation from the Chinese media. A stress fracture's not just something that you would play off. It's really painful. the game with the Mavs might have caused him to get the stress fracture in the long run, but no way he played through it. Maybe this is giving Rockets fans hope that IF he was playing with an injury zomg he might come back with 26 ppg/13 rpg. I'm not saying Yao didn't play through an inury, he probably played through a minor one.

I think the worst thing about this is that if diagnosed correctly he would probably be on the court fully healthy right now. But I guess that goes both ways...we probably wouldn't be in the position we are if he had missed 3-4 months.

are you sure it's the foot injury since nov 5th?
i know he got sprained fingers and some type of shoulder injury

My girlfriend is Chinese she told me the article stated he suffered the injury in November in a game against Dallas and that this was the same injury but that the Rockets trainer mis-diagnosed it as bone spurs which was an injury he could play all year on. Apparently the pain was too much to take and they finally did a scan on it showing the trainer was wrong.

The article posted on the Rocket website she told me is an excellent translation but she said "Chinese language is much more expressive than English language and much more colorful and descriptive so the translation is not exact."

I'm Greek myself and I know much gets "lost in translation" because Greek is full of certain sayings that translate in confusing ways in English. Anyway she basically says the translation is correct there, Yao claims the Rocket doctors told him the injury he got was sustained in November against Dallas that was actually the stress fracture, but the trainer said it was just bone spurs and he kept playing. They realized bone spurs would not cause so much pain for so long so they got the scan finally.

All I can say is the Rockets team doctors and trainers are fools.

Is there any logical reason why your team's trainer has not been fired yet? Does he have pics on your owner or something?

Everyone makes mistakes. Doctors aren't perfect, but I have to agree he should be fired now.

Yaoza is indeed one of a kind.

Yao, if you happen to find yourself looking up news in Orlando and catch this blog, I want you to know I support your statement about the possibility of missing the Beijing Olympics. And I want to thank you. Thanks for caring enough about your country to want to compete, even if you know in your heart your team is a long-shot to medal. Thanks for not taking the Olympics for granted like so many American basketball stars do year after year. Most of all, thanks for putting your love for your country above your love for your job and paycheck. Maybe we could all learn something from Yao after all.
