Does anyone know the record for best assist-to-turnover ratio in a season? Jose Calderon's is currently over 5.3/1, which has to shatter the old record, no? I mean, the great Steve Nash had 3.5/1 and 3.0/1 during his two MVP seasons, Calderon blows that out of the water.

What's amazing is that Calderon has those numbers despite not being a top 5 point guard in the NBA. The NBA really has an underrated crop of point guards right now, analysts always talk about how true point guards are dead but if you look around the league there are quite a few "true" point guards... Or at least a comparable amount to the number of "true" point guards that existed in other eras.

He's also shooting .539 from the field, .460 from downtown, and .920 from the line. All while having a 5.3/1 assist-to-turnover ratio. That's a mind blowing level of efficiency. One this guys a full-time, 35+ mpg starter, he'll be every bit as good as Deron Williams imo.

Only five players have hit the 50/40/90 mark in a season, and none with better overall percentages than Calderon currently has. He's having the greatest shooting season in NBA history. He's also shattering the single season assist-to-turnover record. I can't see how anyone can honestly say Calderon couldn't do what Deron Williams is doing in 37 mpg.

you cant just say he would be averaging what deron would be in 37 minutes.. its not like that.. the more you play the more you lose energy too.

its like saying.. what does tracy mcgrady do better then iguodala... hes obviously better then him, but you cant really say he does more then iggy...

thats probably a bad example.. but still..

Can't wait until Calderon books it for a different team this summer, then the raptors fans won't put his stats into every thread.

That was 25 years ago though.

He's got some historically eye-popping numbers, I'll give you that. But the Raptors have yet to be considered a top flight team. I will wait and see who steps up for the Raps in the playoffs before I jump on Calderon love boat.

Bottom line is maybe one day Calderon is the Next Nash but at the moment he just isnt a consistent threat. He doesnt break defenses down enough....

That day may come and all will know him, but it isnt now..

Deron is a far better athlete, defender and scorer than Calderon can hope to be.

Tyrone Bogues had an A/TO Ratio of 5.94/1 in 89/90. That was his career best.

It depends on where you want to set the minimum. Pepe Sanchez had 41 assists to only 6 turnovers (6.83:1) in 99-00. But I think most would agree that Bogues holds the record assuming a reasonable volume. If for some reason you want to go in the other direction, there are always players who played such limited minutes that they never turned it over.

And amazingly, the year after that he put up a A/TO of 5.58/1.

5.77/1 A/TO ratio over that 2 year span.

Calderon doesn't have the record yet.

Bucky; as a starter [when TJ was down] that plays around 35 mins, Calderon is a 15, 10 guy with 54/47/92 % and 5-1 ast/TO ratio.

Pretty efficient. Even a hardcore Caldy head like me know that Deron is better though. I'm to lazy to get Deron season averages, but I'm going to guess they look like

22, 10 with 47/41/85 and a 3.8-1 ast/TO ratio [pure guess, think I'm close though]. Deron can break people down off the bounce and play solid D, and that gives him a built in edge. His passes also have a lot of punch, and he trusts himself to shoot and attack the rim more than Calderon does. He can run the fast break better than Calderon [who kills the break too much for my liking] He can explode for points and has X-Factor written all over him.

Calderon is pretty much what you see is what you get. He'll pretty much [when given the mins] give you the 13-11 or 18-9 game with sweet %'s and careful ball handling. His passes don't drop jaws, not does his stats. Its just quite efficiency. A prime example of this would be a game [don't remember the opposition] where he attempted only four shots but finished with a 14/11 game, did not miss once from anywhere, and had 0 TO's.

Look straight at the stats though, I find Deron's extra 7 points more valueble than Calderon's great %'s and Deron's superior D, over Calderon's ast/TO edge.

Can't wait until Calderon books it for a different team this summer, then the raptors fans won't put his stats into every thread.

How does a RFA "book it"? I mean, its not like there is a team out there that is quasi-Euro with an atmosphere he is comfortable with and an All-Star big man he can run the pick and roll with. Oh wait. Nevermind.

I agree that the amount of threads concerning Calderon has been a tad much, but hey, if you don't like them, don't come into them.

I think Calderon is going to get a very nice FA offer (more than 8 million a year). Toronto will be hard-pressed to match that. At least without a trade. Otherwise they'll have the best paid backup PG in the league with either him or TJ.

Since joining the starting line-up for Indiana, Travis Diener has a 5.625 ast/to ratio through 15 games.

A team would have to be under the cap to offer that much [past the MLE], and I think the Hawks, Seattle, and the 76ers are really the only team in the position to get him. And the Hawks and 76ers both have Bibby and Andre Miller, and Seattle has Watson and Luke.

[I'm not a great salary guy, but this is form what I have heard.]
