Why does Boston need PJ Brown and Sam Cassell?

If I were a celtics fan i'd rather see Perkins/Davis/Powe play than PJ brown.

Cassell is a washed up alien. How is he any better than Eddie House? They are both chuckers, atleast House knows his role whereas CAssell still thinks it's 1997.

Detroit signing Ratliff? WHY?? They have sheed, dice, Maxiell and Johnson. Some will say it's for depth...you don't need an injury prone washed up big!

and all the commotion over Brent Barry? Give me a F****** break. None of these players are difference makers, they are cheap ringers, nothing more.

This reminds me when people got all excited about signing Shandon Anderson, or Howard Eisley or even Derek Anderson...DEREK F****** ANDERSON!!

I agree with MagicFan32, what the hell is Ratliff going to do in Motown ? Ride the pine harder then he did in Minny. He's damaged goods. I think most of these signings are panic insurance, Rondo don't need Cassell getting in his ear this time of the year. I can see if Sam was there at the beginning of the season but he wasn't.

PJ Brown all season talked through his flunky....err....agent about how he was content with retirement then hoed his way onto a contender.

If I was any of the guys who have done all of the heavy lifting all season then seen some free loader come in I'd be pissed if he got what little time I had earned.

Then the media blows up these signings like it's some block buster move that just set a team over the top. Most of these guys have been dead men walking all season hell some have just been plain old dead period.

Detroit needed a big man.....not to be a part of the rotation but as an insurance policy. He's the only true C on the roster!

HAHAHHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHHAHAHAHAH. i hope you are kidding... why add proven veterans? theres so many positive reasons to list. but im going to list some that might not be too obvious.

1. guidance, rondo is probably more valuable than cassell because hes a lot younger, but cassel has been one of the top point guards for 10+ years. maybe he can teach rondo a thing or two? MAYBE.

2. confidence, most of these guys are winners. they bring in a winning attitude whether they play or not.

3. locker room presence, for a player to last this long, they not only have to be great contributors, but stand out characters. you can never have too many locker room guys. just ask the defending champs.

4. playoff experience. how important is it to have playoff experience? To be honest it might be overrated, but never the less its an advantage.

5. healthy competition among teammates. they will come in and challenge players on the team during practices, during timeouts, etc.

believe me, there are MANY more but these are a few that could be overlooked. ofcourse, these are all ideally what a GM expects when bring in a "wasted up vet" for the price, its not much of a gamble.

Cassell at age 50 would be better then a prime Eddie House. He's still better then Rondo on the offensive side of the ball as well, and with the lack of quality pg's outside of Billups and Calderon in the East, Cassell should get plenty of 4th quarter minutes.

Barry's just doing what Stack was supposed to do, except he was smart enough to not open his mouth. He even feigned some interest in Phx and Dal to make it seem that much more legitimate.

Theo is decent if healthy. Pistonos don't have a real center, not that they really need one, but who knows, maybe Shaq might actually get into shape, and Det will meet Phx in the finals.

Everyone else though, PJ Brown, Dale Davis, CWebb, etc... I agree, they're scrubs.

If you're a playoff team you can never have too much depth. Say Sheed and McDyess gets in foul trouble from D12 or LeBron: who would you rather use as a stop gap at center until they come back - Theo Ratliff or Amir Johnson? When the going gets tough on a playoff game, who would you rather have on the floor - Rajon Rondo or Sam Cassell? Unless you're Avery Johnson, the answer is pretty obvious.

Wait until the playoffs come around, then you'll find out why they signed him.

With Cassell and PJ Brown, Boston has filled their two weak spots which were back up point and a tall veteran frontcourter. They can now go with 5 vets if needed. They can go big whenever they want. They can also go all 48 minutes with a pure point on the floor.

These signings are not a knock on anyone on the Celtics roster. House is very valuable as a shooter. Powe and Big Baby have done very well, but sometimes you need height and experience.

The team is now deeper and more flexible.

Without seeing a ton of him, PJ Brown does appear to be pretty washed up to me and while he adds size and is better than Pollard, I don't think that he's a huge addition.

Cassell, on the other hand, is not even close to washed up and you're crazy if you think Eddie House is better--and I like House.

13 points, 5 assists, 45% from the field and 90% from the line in 25 minutes is getting it done.

Experience.....boy..

That's what Dwight Howard needs in order to be the guy who leads his team to the finals......not this year..
