Just yesterday he scores 33 and 12 and Im like wow. So I decide to look at his game log and see this.
In the last 21 games Al has averaged
21.7 ppg and 5.2 rpg while shooting 44% in about 30 mpg.
I just can't believe this has gone by without anyone saying anything. 21 games too. Clipper fans ain't doing their jobs. I remember people saying he could be ROY if he had minutes before but these are better than durant numbers. Hes 24 and could improve a lot.
Clippers got themselves a major steal.

It's a shame he couldn't get sufficient minutes to start the season, because if so, he's probably be the favorite for Rookie of the Year.
I will say that if he finishes the year on the pace he's on right now, he might just be in some serious contention with Horford (and Durant).

He really is. Julian Wright may turn out to be a very good player, but can you imagine if the Hornets took Thornton at 13 instead? They've been looking to upgrade their bench scoring all year, but Thornton would've really solved those problems. I think his age scared some teams off when it probably shouldn't have.
With his athleticism and scoring ability, his upside is scary, whether he's older than most rookies or not.
Clippers got themselves a keeper.

I was about to start this. This kid has game. He torn my Wizards up and I saw what he did to the Nuggets last night. The Clippers got a real steal.

If you check the Clipper boards we talk a lot about Thornton. >.>
Either way thanks for giving him some Recognition. He has really played well for us and has been the only bright spot(along with Kaman) this year. We have really high hopes for next year even if Mags decides to opt out. Al would do a great job filling the starting SF if we don't get Mags back.

Yup. But we were saying that was a ridiculous decision way before this string of incredible games from Thornton. Which just adds insult to injury for the group of people who pick the Rook/Soph rosters.
Barkley had it right.

As an aside, how funny would it be if he won ROY, being that he wasn't even in the Rook/Soph game?

He should be a consideration for ROY imo. I've seen this kid play, and he is amazing, he can shoot, post up, all the tricks in the bag.

I knew he was gonna be good in the NBA. He can shoot, dunk it hard, and is really strong

talk about taking this conversation out of context.
it's been a humbling year in clipper-land. i think you'll hear a lot more outgoing conversation from us next year once al is playing on a healthy, winning team. but for now, we are definitley pleased with his progress.

Well, he is born in 1983 so he is a very old rookie. He is playing great but when his rookie contract runs out he will already be on decline! j/k

The guy is a beast, and the clipper definitely got a steal. Now granted, he looks a little bit better than he should have last night, because he was playing against the nuggets, but thats another story.
The fact that he was not in the rookie/soph game is insane, hopefully he will steal some votes for ROY from Horford and Durant, and let his name be known.

I dunno...Kobe and rookies are very comparable.

i definitley agree with the inflated stats from playing the nuggets last night but the op broke it down pretty well. al has looked sharp in the last twenty or so games.

LOL kobe really does enter every discussion no matter what. I could start an Araujo was a bust thread and there would be someone saying how Kobe> Araujo

Clipper fans love this guy. Juice has shown to be one of the few bright spots for us this season as Fishy stated. He's had the opportunity to get more playing time with our depleted frontcourt and has impressed. It's been great seeing him grow and gain confidence within himself and from his teammates. As far as ROY goes, I'd love for him to get some votes. I expect it to be between Horford & Durant, but if he can get some respectable acknowledgment then I'll be happy with that.
