Will Iverson get to 30K points?

There has only been 4 players to get 30,000 points in the history of the NBA.
1. Kareem Abdul-jabbar 38,387 (20 seasons)
2. Karl Malone 36,928 (19 seasons)
3. Michael Jordan 32,292 (15 seasons)
4. Wilt Chamberlain 31,419 (14 seasons)
Right now he is in 20th with 22,383 points (11.7 seasons) and not really showing any signs of slowing down yet.
The only other players with even a remote chance right now are Shaq 25,962 (not gonna do it) and Kobe 20,937 (prob not going to do it before AI, if AI does do it.)
Will Iverson be the 5th and next player to hit the 30k plateau?

Doubt it. He won't be around to get that many. Even if he is around, he will soon start to decline, and so I don't think so. He'll be around 26-27 thousand.

He could do it but it will be close. He's on pace to get about 600 more points this season which would put him at 23,000 at the end of the year. I definitely see Iverson staying at around 24-26 PPG for at least 2 more years which is about another 4200 pts combined. That puts him at 27,200 and he'll be 35 by then. He could stick around for a few more years and pick up the needed pts to get to 30,000. The thing is that everyone has said that AI is going to slow down because of his frame and how much punishment he's taken but the guy still puts up elite numbers. Who knows how long it could continue, heck I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed at this level til he's 37 or 38.

At 22 pts a game and 65 games a season (Both fairly low guesses), he'd have to play 5.3 more season. It'd be close. I think he can do it

Iverson is never going to slow down. Hes going to be putting up 25+ until he simply cant play basketball anymore.
I cant belive his body has broken down all ready because i dont think iverson has EVER not brought it for a game. Hes a future HOF fosho

27,410 puts him 5th all-time. I think he'll do that if he doesn't get injured.

What makes you think so? I don't see any signs of it yet. I think he'll get to 5th at 27+K. 30 will definitely be a challenge.

It appears to me that Iverson is not going to slow down anytime soon. Thus, I think he'll break 30,000 points and it might take him about 4 - 6 years to do so.

Nope.. Don't think so.. Needs 4+ seasons over 1800 pts to reach 30K which I doubt he'll make.. Maybe around 27k is possible..

he can definitely do it, but i guess it all depends on if he wants to.
malone could have broken the all-time record in another season or two, but just hung it up.

Does anyone think that Kobe will surpass AI at any point?

Lebron probably has 30 thousand in him.

Players like Iverson don't age to well, so it's not going to be easy.
I can see him following a a path like this:
0809 1800 pts
0910 1500 pts
1011 1200 pts
1112 1000 pts
and that means getting a 28.5k at age 36, assuming no major injuries. I can see getting to 30k in another 2-3 seasons, but he needs to change his game to stay in the NBA at that age.
Kobe is very likely, has every chance to stay over 2000 points for other 3 seasons, and than staying around 1800 for other three.
If he really wants too he could reach Malone playing in his late 30s (it's another ten years!).

I guarantee you he will. Kobe's game is polished enough where he will be effective in his mid-30's.
As for AI, you can only stay that quick for so many years. 2 more years and he will decline hard and fast.

I think he can do it, he is 32. He can play till 40, he is tough and still can score in bunches.
Btw, LeBron is pretty much a lock to get 30k unless he has career ending injury.

I think that depends how he ages. If he were to lose some of that athleticism, I don't think he would be as effective scoring the basketball. He relies way too much on his athletic ability and strength right now.

I don't think he'll lose any of that in next 10 years which means in his current pace he will be around 30k when he is 32...
And he still has plenty of time to develop play in the post and midrange game, we are talking about 23-year old.
Anyway, this thread is about AI

It'll be hard, but after watching AI for so many years, I wouldn't be suprised if he gets there..

I would figure Melo would decrease AI's chances of getting it. If he gets it, it would be very close.
I think for sure Lebron would do it if he stays healthy.
If Shaq could shoot free throws he'd probably be there already!

Yeah keep dreaming. 10 years of basketball will take a toll on anyone's body. He will lose athleticism, this is an inevitable fact. Thats even without injuries. If Lebron can stay healthy for that long the way he plays I will be amazed.

His post and midrange game are way behind Kobe/Jordan's at a similar age. The thing is, Lebron doesn't even need it right now. He can get to the hole at will. There is no one in the league quick and strong enough to guard him. Factor that in with his Tight End body, it just isn't fair right now. We'll see how his game develops though. It will be interesting to see.
