Is this really insult to Marion? (merged threads)

Marion Didn't Want trade until Kerr "diss"
How is that an insult to Marion. He's a great player but he's nowhere near KG and TD. He can't honestly believe he helps his team the way they help their team. I support Kerr's stance on max contracts. Way too many people are getting max contracts. I think that even Ben Wallace and Rashard Lewis have max contracts. It's absurd. I think the trade might have been great after all. Marion is a superior player to Shaq but he seems like a horrible locker room guy. He just seems to be so selfish.
EDIT: I merged the two threads discussing Marion and his comments.

Miami is 2-4 since Shaq started playing. Nash is playing much much worse. Marion was there best defender. He might not be worth KG money, but he is on to something about the 'lack of respect' whether people want to admit or not. Marion is a big part of the reason why the Suns were so good and why Nash has two MVPs he never deserved.

That's true but if you were GM wouldn't you feel as if sooner or later Marion's ego would cause the team to implode in a similar fashion to the 04 Lakers? Also since the Sun's window of opportunity is actually very small then I don't think someone would want to take a chance on that.

Marion is truly delusional. He's a Richard Jefferson level player (well slightly above his level) who wants to make Rashard Lewis money. The NBA where stupid happens.

The suns window got smaller, not larger, after the trade.

Well I wasn't talking about trying to make their window larger. I was just saying that Marion could possibly kill their chances.

Moving Marion didn't have to be a mistake. Getting Shaq in return was.
But if not for Shaq, who? All top teams have elite wings, but there are very few elite centers.
Maybe for Kamen?

If Steve Kerr actually said that he deserves a big '+1' from me. Shawn Marion is becoming delusional when it comes to his own value. IMO, it would in his best interest to realize his situation and stop demanding bigger paydays and amount of shots. He's worthy of around $12M a year if not less. To think he deserves $18M - $20M anually is crazy.

So they brought in Shaq, a guy whose ego is bigger than his whole body? That doesn't make very much sense.

well Rashard makes close to 20mil a year. Why can't Marion think he is worth that much? I personally wouldnt pay him that much but no one besides his agent should try and tell him how much he should think hes worth.

Thing is, how does demanding a trade help Marion's case when it's clear that no one will give him the kind of money he wants?
Lewis is just on a terrible contract that I think is more the product of Otis Smith being a lousy GM than anything. If there is indeed a precedent stemming from that deal, it was a dark day for the NBA.

Kerr would have been the one negotiating the contract, I don't think he was out of line to give his opinion on who's worth a max contract.

Lewis had nothing prordained with the Magic. He just put himself on the market and got paid. Every player out there is trying to macx his value. Varejao was willing to sit for th season. I think its been the norm for years to inflate your value by 20-30% as all players know incompetence in GM offices run real high.

Kerr does have that right but it may have been better to just keep him for this summer. I think Kerr hit the panic button way too soon. What was more then likely to happen was no one would pay Marion 20 mil a year. Marion wouldve come back to the Suns and wouldve accepted a 4-5 year deal worth about 70-80 mil. By punching the panic button he inherited Shaqs contract and destroyed his teams identity.

kerr is getting way too much of the blame. there's an owner that needs to be mentioned.

what did he wish for?
a chance to play in the nba and get paid millions for doing so. S****** give me a veteran exception and I'll be suited for the Bobcats tomorrow.
Only if my wishing power was effective as Marion's.

I think its pretty much understood that Orlando overpaid for Rashard.
