From a impact standpoint? Is 2007/2008 Jason Kidd Overated

Forget about the past accompolishments and just focus on this particular Jason Kidd.
2 months ago ppl were saying Kidd was worth Lamar Odom and Jordan Farmar and i thought it was some joke or something. I swear i was chatting with Dave Chappelle. He must be a fan on the realgm forums or something.
I watched a lot of Nets games earlier in the season and he was absoutely horrible in halfcourt sets. Double team Jefferson or Carter and Kidd was no threat on offense. He couldn't hit the 3 or the Mid-Range jumper. All he would do is come down and feed either Jefferson or Carter and let them isolate. I rarely saw Kidd break down the D in a halfcourt set and put pressure on the defense. He was still very good running the fastbreak though.
The same thing is happening in Dallas. In halfcourt sets,he comes down court and just feeds to Josh or Dirk for a isolation play and he gets out the way. Devin Harris would do that, but he also had the ability to blow by the defender in a halfcourt set and Re-Kick to Josh for a wide open 15 footer. Now Josh has to go isolation majority of the time. Harris could also get the the free throw line also after getting by the defender.
So from a impact standpoint is this particular Jason Kidd Overated?
Dallas is worse with him just like Phoenix is with Shaq

I've been preaching the fact that Kidd is extremely overrated for years. He has some of the most useless triple doubles.

Ok, he's not that overrated.
He's definitely a top 10 PG.
I'd take Davis, Billups, Nash, Williams, Paul, Parker over him for sure.

you can't put a price on those patented 11-10-10 triple doubles that nets fans were worshipping way back when (october)

I'd much rather take 18/3/8 shooting 45% over 11-10-10 35%.
Btw dude, you're not quoting the whole story in your sig.
I said you pick KG over Dr.J if you want to have a better chance to win a championship in today's league.

He's overrated but he can still play no doubt

He's going to be the starting PG of team USA over Chris Paul and Deron Williams. Doesn't that say he's at least a top 10 PG?

by your response i assume you weren't counting arenas, i was.
arenas, iverson, and calderon were also on my list. i guess i shouldn't have said he's not top ten, rather number ten.

He's not overrated because half of real gm rips him all the time now. Hell John Hollinger spent a few months ranting about Kidd in all his articles.

He's a top 10 PG for sure but I think Kidd starts for USA because #1, he's the best passer, #2 he has 4 finishers, #3 he has experience, #4 he's a veteran.

Kidd should come to Houston. Adelman will maximize Kidd's tripple double.

No, I'm just saying. He has to be a top 10 PG to have to be a leader for the USA (might I remind you that the US is the biggest basketball country) and he's getting the nod over Paul and Deron which says something about how he is still playing.

kidd obviously isn't better than paul or deron at this point so i'm not sure what your point is.... that he's starting over players better than him? simply being on the team has no real relevance to how good they are in the nba now that the team has moved away from the all the top players mindset.

No, he's not better. But he has to be AT LEAST a top 10 PG in the NBA to have to be starting for Coach K.

This is another case of a player not fitting into an offense.
Shaq doesn't fit with the Suns up tempo offense
Kidd doesn't fit into the Mavs half court iso offense
Kidd needs to be on a team with either shooters or athletes that can run with him. Vince and Jefferson can get out and run with Kidd.
This is sad for Dallas and Phoenix........

1996 Magic Johnson averaged 15 points , 7 assist and 6 rebounds and shot 46% and that's after not playing since 1991.
Kidd kinda reminds me of 1996 Magic, only 6-4. Magic, even though layed off for 5 years was still more of a threat on offense.

Kidd is one of the most overrated players in the history of the league. I hear people saying he is close to Stockton and better than Payton now.
Please what you have said about Kidd has been the case for years. Kidd has yet to be the point guard of an elite offensive team in his career. Not once in his entire career. The reason is he is a bad half court point guard. Kidd has never made players better. He doesn't get players open shots he finds open players. Thats a major difference.
He doesn't draw double teams in the half court. Usually his man is guarding someone else. Kidd is a great player but I don't think there a player of the last 10-15 years more overrated.
