The 8th spot in the west...Warriors, Nuggets or Suns??

Post#1 » by Skooby » Sat Mar 8, 2008 12:46 pm

It used to be Warriors, Nuggets or Rockets. But I think the Rockets have proven they can win enough to make the playoffs.

So who gets left out now that Phoenix is playing below .500 basketball with Shaq?

Dallas schedule: 12 home, 8 road
5 vs the eastern conf.(1 Boston)

The Suns have a hard remaining schedule. Dallas has the easiest schedule left imo. Although Golden State could slip with four tough games in 5 days:

Well Dallas and Phx aren't playing very well right now but Dallas has been playing competitively and Phx looks bad. GS is kind of just chugging along, Houston is just playing out of their minds but their schedule does start to turn right now. Denver is in the worst position but not by much.

Just by schedule my thoughts are:

Dallas has 10 games vs WC playoff teams and a game vs Portland. The way they are playing now I can see them losing 5 to 7 of those games.

Denver has 9 games against WC playoff teams and games vs Boston, Toronto (2), and a game vs Sac no gimme game. Thats 13 potential losses. Denver isn't consistent enough for me and I can see them losing 7-9 of those games.

GS has 11 games vs WC playoff teams, and games vs Orl, Tor, Sac, and Por. They have a total 16 legit potential losses. Hard to read GS; they are pretty tough minded but thats a lot of games vs top teams.

HOU has 9 games vs WC playoff teams, and games vs Bos, Sac, and Por. I admit I didn't think they could sustain without Yao so it's hard to read if they are going to keep it up. However just looking at their schedule imo is not as tough as the other 8th spot contenders.

Phx has 9 games vs WC playoff teams and games vs Bos, Det, Sac, Por. The way Phx is playing they could lose every game vs WC playoff teams. Their confidence has to be low.

I'm thinking Phx isn't going to make it from their momentum meter is on empty. But GS schedule might be the toughest imo; Denver ain't the toughest but they have some easy games sprinkled in there to make a move.

Better get League Pass because this is going to get good.......
I'm so tired of the typical......

The Nuggets are the most inconsistent team from that list, and as much as I love them, I have a bad feeling it'll be them.

Either Phoenix, the Rockets, or the Nuggets. The Suns are just kind of laughable now, I could easily see a T-Mac led team choking down the stretch (once they come back down to Earth a la Portland), and the Nuggets are in a bit of a hole right now...

2. Spurs
3. Hornets
4. Jazz
5. Mavs
6. Rockets

Denver just beat Boston last week. They don't play Boston again.

Im curious to see how Denver does. In the last 3 years they've been one of the top 3 finishers in the league come March and April.

Golden State seems to have the toughest schedule of all of the teams. A week ago I would've put Denver in that position but they've beaten Boston, PHX, and the Spurs since then.

Golden State is who im watching.

denver already played boston twice and they split the series...they don't play them again.
and if anyone knows anything about denver...they have as much potential to lose to a bad eastern team as a good western one. if they didn't drop consecutive games to a depleted chicago team and the milwaukee bucks last week...they could take the division lead tonight in utah.

phoenix has 4 games (combined) remaining against golden state & denver.
both teams can now exploit the pace to their advantage...(as witnessed by denver dropping 126 on wednesday)
and without marion, carmelo/iverson/jackson/davis can get wherever they choose on the court, and score without any real problems.

Around this time every year a poll comes out on realgm that bashes the nuggets chances of making the playofs, and they always end up making it.

I think they have as good a chance as the rest of the teams listed for a few reasons-
A) they have two viable ways of getting into the playoffs. Winning the division or getting 8th seed or higher. The rest of the teams on the poll arent going to win their division

B) They are getting players back. Atkins back last night, Nene possibly coming back as well, and JR Smith is finally getting playing time and really blowing up. BY contrast, the warriors and rockets have serious injury issues.

C) They play best with their backs against the wall. They are a second half team. They step it up when its needed.

cupcake it seems a bit premature to say anyone is a lock to get in. The only team that has a locked playoff berth in the NBA as of right now is Boston.
I'd say i might be better for Tmac and Houston to tank it the rest of the year and get a lottery pick because without Yao they aren't going anywhere in the playoffs.

I'm not saying the Warriors are a lock. I'm worrying about the playoff race as well. My post just meant that the Warriors were in this same position last season. Except last season we had the toughest remaining schedule in the league against us.

ahh it's nice to see a Ya Boy fan from Colorado. haha, it's really hard for anything/anyone from the Bay Area to get some recognition. The Warriors, our music, our city etc.

So yeh, good to see someone outside the Bay Area who actually knows who Ya Boy is. He's one of our only hopes to put the Bay Area back on the map. haha.

:dontknow: It's only like the 5th largest metropolitan area in the country. I think it gets alot of recognition.

Doesn't matter how big the Bay Area is. It's still almost impossible for a rapper from the Bay to make it mainstream nowadays.
