Odds of Beno Udrih winning MIP Award

I know this may sound absurd but hear me out. This is a player who's increased his offensive output by 8.7 ppg, third in the league only behind Rudy Gay and Rashad Mccants. His post allstar numbers are as follows:
16.8 ppg
6.4 apg
3.4 rpg
51% FG
36.4% 3PT
85.3% FT
In this month of March he's been avg'g 20 ppg on 54% shooting from the field, 3.2 rpg, and 6.6 assists per game. As well as shooting 50% from behind the arc.
I know Kaman may be the more deserving player at the moment but if Udrih can finish the season off strong I don't see no reason why he shouldn't be considered in the discussion. Udrih's pre-allstar numbers weren't bad either, it's pretty much been a role reversal since Allstar weekend. It's a given that Kaman's been suffering from Back Spasm's but Udrih's no stiff either. He's flown under the radar up to this point.

He might get some votes, but as much as I'd like that I don't see him getting the award. He is or was in the first half of the season too inconsistent. But I'm sure European player 'll get the award this year, either Hedo Turkoglu or Jose Calderon, with Hedo having more chances to win.

I still think he's in the discussion.

Thank you for making this thread i wanted to make it for 2 days but didn't want to be considered a Slovenian fanboi even if i am one
I mean come on you got to love his stats the past 7 games:
25PTS 8AST 4RBS 72FG%
25PTS 5AST 5RBS 62FG%
23PTS 9AST 4RBS 75FG%
15PTS 3AST 2RBS 36FG%
25PTS 4AST 4RBS 58FG%
13PTS 7AST 4RBS 50FG%
25PTS 10AST 2RBS 56FG%
I don't think he well slow down neither, because as a starter his stats are:
15PTS 5AST 3,5RBS FG%47
I think he finally feels comfortable with his team and the role he plays on it and is playing that much better because of that.

^Those stats indeed are pretty juicy.
What's funny is in NBA 2k8 he has almost identical stats (for the season) and no matter how many times I play this year he wins MIP everytime so who knows.

Udrih will probably not make MIP, but he is a Top 5 candidate. He is developing nicely AND he has already won two rings!

it needs to be Hedo all the way, my bias and unbiased opinion both...

Sorry, I don't think he'll win. Those numbers you posted are after all star break. Theres alot of people whos numbers are up after the break.Look at what Ellis is doing. I think for Most Improved you have to consider the whole year. I like Beno and he's a good point guard, but I think about it this way, which player would you get at last years rates with the hope he becomes what he is this year. I think Calderon, Turkoglu, Andray Blatche to some degree, Bynum pre injury are/ or were better candidates

I like Beno's game this season, and it's nice to see players like him get their break...but it just has to be Turk, not only the most improved but also the most valuable to his team...he got screwed for the all-star game hardcore, he had better get the nod on this...

As a Kings fan, Beno Udrih is a godsend. He deserves the MIP award as much as anybody else, without him the Kings would be absolutely unwatchable. He really stabilizes our team and makes us fun to watch (Well, when we're not laying goose eggs against the Twolves that is). [/u]

Mike Dunleavy, Jr. is probably somewhere up there too. In fact, when you match up Dunleavy and Turkoglu, they're essentially having the same season this year, but Dunleavy's just a couple minutes a game below him.
Dunleavy - ~35 minutes, 18.2 ppg, 5 rpg, 3apg, 2 to, 1 spg, 48% fg, 40% 3pt, 83% ft
Turkoglu - ~38 minutes, 19.6 ppg, 6 rpg, 5apg, 3 to, 1 spg, 45% fg, 39% 3pt, 84% ft
Both guys have played great this year, but Turkoglu has really improved from averaging 14 ppg or so consistently over the past 4 years, and he's essentially playing more minutes and shooting more. Dunleavy has taken a step up from averaging about 11 ppg or so consistently his entire career, and is clearly averaging career highs in most every category. Turkoglu = small step up. Dunleavy = large increase in production.

agh man, how could I forget MD Jr...
I disagree with Hedo making a "small step"...the guy has made a major leap...triple doubles man, triple doubles, game winners, distributing the ball on offense, destroying teams in the 4th quarter...MIP or bust for Hedo...

He's in the dicussion, but Turkoglu or Calderon will win the award (Kaman and Bynum have probably missed too many games to win MIP despite their impressive improvement).

Im a kings fan and beno has been a gem for us,but the award would probably go to hedo as he has been playing an allstar type performance.....And i think he has the 3rd most fourth quarter points just behind lebron and kobe....

Beno is a top candidate IMO. Here is a player that defines what the award is all about. He was traded away by the Spurs because they didn't need him, and sent to the wolves where he was cut. He was cut...by the wolves...and out of a job. The Kings gave him a chance, and he's not only been a starting PG and performed well, he's been tearing teams apart lately and proving he deserves to stay in the league. He's my MIP.
