First John Amaechi Now Dino Radja?

Post#1 » by Lakers_4_Life » Tue Mar 18, 2008 3:11 pm

The press in Croatia reported that Dino Rađa, known in English as Dino Radja is gay. For those that do not know or remember Dino Radja was a superstar in Europe.

He joined the NBA where he played for the Boston Celtics in the 1990s era. He was a 6-11 big man and was quite a good player. He was a very good NBA player but he started to get some health problems. He was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers and he failed his physical.

I don't remember what was wrong with him but it was something that meant he couldn't get a contract or play with an NBA team because he could not pass a physical. So he left the NBA after the trade fell apart and went back to Europe and continued to have a great career there before retiring.

According to Croatian press it is out that he is gay and played in the NBA like John Amaechi afraid to announce it. Also supposedly like Amaechi it is rumored he claims there were "many gay NBA players" also afraid to come out of the closet................

Hmm.......now we have two ex players making this claim.

What does everyone make of this?

BTW, Dino Radja was definitely a legit NBA player and good NBA player. This is a much more significant name than John Amaechi IMO.

How is it more significant. The significance isn't that gays can play basketball, it's that there is only one confirmed homosexual in the long history of professional basketball and now maybe two.

Thats oppression at its worst.

Do you have a source for this? Even if it is only in Croatian, it would be appreciated.

http://www.index.hr/xmag/clanak/danijel ... 77929.aspx

Keep in mind I don't know this language. My friend who knows the language is the one that told me it was reported there and the things he gave was what I mentioned in the first post here.

As far as a link to a website, not really a newspaper or TV this is all I can find. I have no idea what this says and what actually is stated in this site so understand that issue.

My first post is based on what a friend said he heard on TV.

Thanks for the link, I'll wait for resident Croatian RealGMers to evaluate how legit this stuff is.

Lol, he hides it really well.

That being said, I didn't realize he was such a good player. I think I mixed him up with a bunch of other tall white guys at the time.

I'm not saying there is some problem with it. I'm more interested in this notion that a TV report mentioned many gay NBA players also afraid to say so, which was the same thing Amaechi said and if you will remember the way he was attacked by a lot of NBA players especially Tim Hardaway for "lying".

Now there's another player supposedly making similar claims and also that he had to wait until retirement to do so.

My Croatian isn't half as good as it should be, but according to this articla, it's just a rumor, that's not confirmed. It isn't even about Dino, it's about some chick (probably a famous Croatian singer). The rumor says that this girl cought her boyfriend sleeping with Radja, but she says that's BS, and his boyfriend is not gay, but it doesn't really say anything about Dino. Keep in mind, I'm not an expert in Croatian.

What someone does in their own bedroom a private matter. I love how athletes make such a big deal about being in a locker room with someone openly gay when they've doubtless already shared a shower with someone of that persuasion.

I'm sure there are more gay NBA players. Just like there are probably gay MLB, NFL, and NHL players...

Sucks, but what can you do about it?

Well, it actually says that Dino denies that and even jokes about the possibility. if he is gay, he certainlly isn't coming out with it.

I'm pretty sure Travis Diener on the Pacers is gay. He is constantly wearing colors like pink and baby blue, and he just gives out that vibe.

I remember Elson calling out Garnett back in the 2004 playoffs. I'm not sure if the accusations were ever proved / disproved though.
