I'm sick and tired of NBA tv coverage + game selections

Post#1 » by Happyfoosball » Wed Mar 19, 2008 3:29 pm

Okay i'm a Magic fan. For years I could understand why my favorite team is never on national tv, but this year I don't get it. They are 20+ games over .500 yet the only team that ever seems to be on are the Lebrons. They are on almost every night, it seems like only teams like the Lakers, Cavs, Rockets, are every telivised. I'm sick of it. It's supposed to be the NBA, not the "superstar" leauge. People are fans of teams and they want to see their teams. I do have leauge pass when i'm at home which is great but up at college I do not, but still how can a team thats 20+ games over .500 never be on tv? It makes no damn sense.

Its just because of excitement, and the way there playing.

Just think about it:
Lakers: Kobe, Kobe, Kobe, and Kobe.
Cavs: LBJ, LBJ, LBJ, and LBJ
Rockets: Tmac + Yao have something to do with it, but lately it was the 22 game winning streak.
Boston: The Trio.
Hell even the Heat were scheduled to be on A LOT of national TV games, and Wade has most to do with that.

Basically I can name one for every team, but they want the games that will attract the highest number of viewers, and well thats why they have those teams on there.

They'll be on national tv next year, it's the way it works. Either you have a foundation of success (Spurs, Detroit), you are hyped up before the season (Boston), or you have ratings grabbing superstars (Miami....at the beginning of the season at least)

In Australia we get games such as Milwaukee vs Miami regularly.....i'd rather watch anything other than Miami, Milwaukee or Cavs.

Why aren't some of those other teams with similar records out west on t.v. either? Did you stop to think about that...?

But yes, the Magic will likely get more games on t.v. next season. It just seems like a lot of Magic fans tend to forget that there are west coast teams with better records that don't get much national attention either - and they're playing harder competition.

Well since the schedule is set up before the season starts (for the most part) the fact that the magic are so good is sort of irrelevant.

i have no idea if its possible

but the NBA should have a flexible schedule for national TV games

schedule the first few months before the season, then schedule accordingly after

it bugs me to no end to still see the heat on national TV, when you have teams like New Orleans having an incredible season

But you're Australian. You obviously are a huge Bogut/Buck fan, since he is of the same nationality. Australians want Bogut 24/7.

Its called ratings Mang.

These teams bring in viewers , so in return they bring in the Che ching .$$$$

Thats why the biggest sport marketing cities are Boston , LA , N.Y in any sports .....
Now look at the Knicks ... since they aren't doing to well they're not televised .

That's not true at all. Milwaukee have been on TV here approx 4 times all season... Miami about 9 million and the Cavs maybe 12 million. Cavs, Miami, Spurs, Phoenix, Lakers, Pistons are the games we get the most of, it drives me insane.

like many stated above, you have to earn the respect the season prior. G-State barely was on national TV last year, and we have 20+ games this year.

Well they didn't have a lot of hype coming into the season and last season they were only mediocre, so that explains why they aren't on tv as much. But next year, with how good they've become and having superman on your roster, they will definitely have a lot of national games.

Business is business. They televise games they believe will snag the highest ratings. As of right now, no matter how much success they have, the Magic simply aren't in this category. I expect them to enter into it within the next few years though.

Orlando's record compares with anyone out wests, but I did not forget that. I just used Orlando as an example because they are the team I root for. I do notice that other teams don't get near the exposure they should. I used Cleveland as an example of an over exposed team because it bugs me how much they are on, their record does not warrent it at all.

Records mean nothing; marketability means everything.

I wouldn't take it that far. A good record means better marketability. That's why we haven't seen Knicks games on national t.v. in a long time.

Look at Houston, for example. Their last two games were added to ABC and TNT, respectively, because of their winning streak.

if you have league pass then call your your cable company back home and ask them for your on line code then when you get it go to NBA.com and you can watch any game you want online.
