Ever remember a season like this?

Post#1 » by Ryoga Hibiki » Fri Mar 21, 2008 6:40 pm

Code: Select all

1 LALakers             47 21  16    - .691
2 NOrleansHornets      46 21  10  0.5 .687
3 PhoenixSuns          46 22  11  1.0 .676
4 HoustonRockets       46 22  10  1.0 .676
5 SanAntonioSpurs      45 23  12  2.0 .662
6 UtahJazz             45 25  12  3.0 .643
7 DallasMavericks      44 25   9  3.5 .638

At this point of the season, any of these teams could win the WC, I don't remember such an non predictable season ending, any PO match-up is possible and it could vastly influence individual awards.
For instance, Kobe could be a favorite for the MVP, but what if the Lal drop and get the 5th or 6th seed?

It has a shot at the greatest, it may not have Jordan/Magic/Bird type of players but it has a group of unique talents spread on a lot of teams, Kobe&co in LA, Spurs trio, Dirk&Kidd in Dallas, Nash, Shaq & co in PHX, Paul is giving amazing season, Sloan has gathered an interesting bunch and Nellie did the same in the bay.
It may not be the greatest if you look at the top of talent, but to have such a big number of teams who are 55 wins team in a normal conference, it's the most interesting season in my 10 years basketball following career.

Don't forget GS as one of the contenders. The West is just crazy this year.

this thread happens every year. there is always something cool with the standings.

like in 2006 when 3 teams won 60 + games and the second best team was seeded fouth

3) Nuggets 44-38
4) Mavs 60-22

that was gold.

my point is there is no all-time great team.. theres a bunch of good teams, theres no standout 90s bulls 80s lakers early 70s knicks 60s celtics(and 80s).. so how can it be the greatest conference? the level of play today is very low compared to the 80s and 90s, nothing today should be considered "great" until the nba allows tougher d, the love affair with the 3pointer ends, and certain positions arent completely dominant while some like the center have like 3 good players..

ofcourse all the 10year olds on here will disagree, but anyone whos watched 80s and 90s basketball knows this decade is far weaker.. flashier? yes.. better athletes? overall, yes.. a broader range of skilled players? yes.. but the level of play and competitiveness is at a low in respects to the last 2-3 decades.. players are too friendly shakin hands huggin before games, simple fouls is the 80s-90s are flagrants today, flagrants then are ejections now.. its like a 8year old girls league nowadays - hence the sh*tty ratings for even the finals (who had lebron f'in james - the nba posterboy in it)

ill take holding over NO defence any day.. sh*t thats sprewell playing d.. when is the last time you have seen a knick player attempt to play d? the tough d even if their were fouls allowed (that wouldnt be allowed today) added to the intensity and rivalries that are NONEXISTANT today..

whats a rivalry today? seeing if shaq and kobe hug before the game on xmas or not.. there's no bad blood today.. theres no pat riley's no layup rule or no helping guys up rule.. no best friends like magic and isiah on the court physically going after eachother yet off the court being buddies.. the NBA is WEAK and a sh*t product - the only upside to this decade is their community work and expansion

Just because the Knicks suck ass, doesn't mean that the rest of the league does. Get that straight.

Everything in the past always seems better.. but its not always true, we just refuse to acknowledge good games/teams for some reason.

It's true. In 20 years we will all be whining about the good old days annoying other people.
