Worst Statspadding Ever?

In 2003, the Cavaliers' Ricky Davis shot at his own basket in the final seconds of a blowout victory over Utah so he could get his 10th rebound to complete a triple-double. DeShawn Stevenson of the Jazz hammered Davis with a cross block. "DeShawn fouled him, and I would have fouled him, too," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "I would have knocked him on his ass." Said Cavs coach Keith Smart: "He has to live with what he did. Wherever he goes, people will remember it."

I came across this video and remembered the day I first saw this. I don't think you can get much lower than this as a player. Can you think of any worse case of blatant statspadding? I mean we know Moses padded his offensive rebounds etc. but this was really something else.

Ps: I don't know what's the deal with the music and pictures at the end of the video but the look on Sloan's face is priceless.

I think Bobby Sura tried the same thing when his 3rd straight triple double was on the line.

We've talked about this many, many times around here. Honestly I don't think it was that bad. What's the big deal? They were up by 25 points. The game was basically over. Hell, why not? If what he did had effected the game some how, like caused his team to lose or something, then I'd say, "Yea, he's a prick." But the game was basically over. Not the best show of sportsmanship i've ever seen, but really not so bad at all.

EDIT: BTW, the pictures at the end of that video make it frickin priceless.

Camby is a pretty bad stat padder. He will launch up 3's to try and get the triple double or chase down a loose ball at the end of the game/quarter just to get the rebound added to his stat sheet. He's the most likely guy to fight a teammate for a rebound.

I believe the league fined Davis for that, and he certainly wasn't credited with a rebound and subsequently didn't get the triple double.

I guess you could then say that it is the "worst statspadding ever" because he didn't even get any stats.

I wouldn't have been surprised if Ricky threw a hook at DeShawn lol that was a very "unique" foul.

I can't believe that Davis actually thought he was going to be credited with a shot attempt and a rebound. At least do it on your own basket.

When Orlando guard Anthony Bowie called timeout with 2.7 seconds remaining in the Magic's 113-91 victory over the Pistons on March 19 so he would have a chance for the first triple-double of his career, Collins -- incensed at the bushness of it all -- instructed his Pistons to stand at the side of the court when play resumed and not contest Bowie's pass to David Vaughn for a dunk that gave Bowie his 10th assist.

If Collins wanted to point out the classlessness of the timeout, he accomplished that.

If he wanted to cheapen Bowie's triple-double, he did that, too.

Sura did it on his own hoop though, thats completely different. Especially considering if he had gotten it he would have been in elite company (something like Grant Hill, Magic Jhnson and The Big O).

LeBron James is a stat padder too, there are tons of them in this league but id say James is the highest profile stat padder.

Lebron's first playoff game was clear stat padding. Cleveland was blowing the Wizards out from the 1st minute, and still, James player all 48minutes, just to "make" history.....for me it was pathetic.

It took more than one page till LeBron got mentioned? Wow...
