60+ Win Season

As a fan do you care if your team wins 60+ games in a season? Is it important? The last team to win the title with 60+ wins was the '03 Spurs which was five years ago. Last season 67-win Dallas and 61-win Phoenix were eliminated in the first and second round respectively. Two years ago my 63-win San Antonio and 64-win Detroit were eliminated in the second round and ECF respectively. Let's not forget 60-win Dallas was embarrassed by the 52-win Miami in the grand stage. Three years ago 62-win Phoenix was crushed by San Antonio in the WCF.

The barrier for "You win this many games and you win the title" is around 67 games, IIRC. That I can recall, only the 67-win Mavs and a Celtics team with an injured superstar failed to win the title after winning that many games.

I just want my team to fair well in the post-season, with having the best regular season they can have to gain the best seed.

But, if they win 60+ in the regular season, and get knocked out in the 1st round; then the season was a waste, IMO.

It's a nice benchmark and indicative of regular season dominance, obviously...but pointless without postseason sucess.

It really doesn't matter at all if my team wins 60 games as long as they bring home a title, thats all that matters. Yeah my team would have won 60 games if they were healthy but that dosen't matter at all.

Teams that could post 60 games:
Lakers
Spurs
Suns
Mavericks
Hornets
Rockets
Celtics
Pistons

The only reason we shoot for 60 is because of the home court and match ups thats its.

If you're a top team it's not all that difficult to pick up wins against the many bottom feeders. So it's a limited indication of post-season success, since you won't be playing the Grizzlies and Sonics 7 times in the playoffs.

Still, you can't say that regular season success doesn't matter. So maybe some 60 win teams haven't won. But what was the last under 50 win team to win? That's an even more rare occurrence.

If rarely a team wins the championship with 60 wins or more, it doesn't diminish the chances of them winning the title at all. History has nothing to say. It isn't like a pattern when 60 win teams don't the the Finals. But this year, the only 60 win team has a pretty good chance at the Championship.

Well that's really not fair, there were only 50 games that season in the first place haha

Those are the only ones that count, 5 teams.

Don't Mean a Thing, Without the Ring

i think for teams who aren't going to win the chip, it's good for the fans and the organization to have a strong showing...like the Magic, we're hoping to pass the 50 win mark for multiple reasons...out goal this year was to win a lot of games to prove the doubters wrong and then win a playoff series...if we do both of those we'll all be happy...baby steps...

I think those two statements are contradictory. I agree with the second one though.

I watch basketball because it is entertaining. I like watching my crappy team play. Every regular season win, or close loss for that matter, is enjoyable to me because I have better things to do than be disappointed that my team hasn't won a chip since the 50s and probably won't change that any time soon.

Honestly, all the people here that say that winning the title is the only thing that matters, don't you have fun watching the games in the regular season? Are you all actually disappointed every season your team doesn't walk away with the trophy? What is the fun in that.

Maybe being an Atlanta sports fan has lowered more threshold because I would love to watch a 50 win team and be a second tier contender after all these years of terrible, unlikable, hard to watch teams.

Of course I'd go **** nuts if we won the championship, I'm just a realist.
