Most Underrated Player of the Season?

Post#1 » by Scalabrine » Sat Apr 5, 2008 6:18 am

Who are some of the players that have been extremely under valued all season long by this website, the media, the fans?

Candidates:
Caron Butler
Josh Smith
Kevin Martin
Carmello Anthony
Jamal Crawford
Erik Dampier

Ill give my reasons when I have more time but what are some other players that have been underrated by us all season long?

Yeah, Kevin Martin. He is underrated because he is playing with a team that has no chance in the playoffs currently in the tough West. Martin is the #6 leading scorer in the NBA. He is #5 in FTA per game and #1 in FTs made per game. He is shooting at around ~62 TS%. And etc...There is alot of things positive about Martin but you guys get the point...

Brendan Haywood. He is a big part on why that team is going to stun someone in the first round.

If this were the NFL and the all-star game was after the season Deron and Andre Miller would be easily in.

To a certain extent I would actually say Deron Williams. The guy is a flat-out stud, but plays in a market very few people care about nationally. If he played in L.A., Chicago, New York, etc, he would be universally recognized as a top 10 or so player.

Besides him, I will go with the homer pick of Melo. He has been slightly under the radar, but he has improved his defense and rebounding from last year with only a very slight decrease in ppg.

I will throw honorable mentions out to Antawn Jamison, who's stats have been very impressive when compared to how much media attention he receives, and as far as mediocre players go, Leon Powe is pretty under-rated, since no one even knows who he is.

Jamison doesn't play defense, so he gets as much attention as he deserves (as with Melo).

I think Butler and Haywood are the underrated players from that team. I mean even when Gil was hurt, whenever discussing Washington on TV, it was always, wow they are playing so well but imagine when Agent Zero gets back.

WILL SOMEONE ELSE IN THIS THREAD ACKNOWLEDGE HAYWOOD. He is a top 3 defensive center in the league and gets no love. I mean even Draftexpress underrates him considering they have him as Brook Lopez's worst case scenario.

Butler has been injured too often to make my list.

As far as Melo and Jamison not playing much defense, I have no problem with that statement, I just think that even taking that into account, they both have been under the radar. Hell, how many players can we honestly say play on a high level on both sides of the court? Very, very few.

I made a thread about it. It has to be Kevin Martin, Deron Williams, and Chris Kaman. David West deserves also honorable mention.

MVP . Andre Miller

gotta give it up to my boy Monta or Jack on the warriors... highly underrated, media attention wise, but still not looked as the focal points of the team offense/defense. ... still calling BD the reason why their winning.. Mainly when Jack's havin an off night, the warriors are almost guaranteed a loss.
