Why doesn't Dallas run more?

After getting Jason Kidd I figured that they would push the ball up the floor faster but they play at the same pace. I liked the old New Jerser team whe they had Kittles and Martin because that when Jason Kidd was at his best. I feel that if they just let Kidd run the show they would be much better. I guess I'm used to seeing Kidd leading the break being followed by Martin or Jefferson for the finish. That could be Nowitzki, Howard, Stackhouse, or Terry fishining behind Kidd. But then again it just me.

Because Avery Johnson would have a heart attack if they ran.

ive been wondering the same thing... why not change youre philosophy (sp) to suit youre players... kidd runs well let kidd run... then when the game slows down just do youre iso's... is it just me or does dallas run a hell of a lot of iso's??

I understand that Avery is opposite of Nellie and doesn't want to run. But I thought that they made the move to Kidd because they were going to run more. If not, then why make the move at all? Avery's offense is just exposing one on one mismatches. Harris is a much more explosive one on one player than Kidd is . Making Kidd a half court system pg is like making Micheal Vick a pocket passing quarterback.

Exactly. Making the trade that they did for Kidd and not adapting to and utilizing his key strengths is just unfathomable.

because they can play defense now a days. I thought they moved away from the running due to it not being successfull in the playoffs.

J-Kidd should help half court just as much in a run game. He was once considered a really good defender. They need to install some motion offense to take advantage of J-Kidds passing rather then the isos.

This thread is a little late. We've been pushing the ball much more recently, and just ran Golden State off the court.

Avery doesn't really know what the hell he's doing anyway.

There are only one or two Mavericks players who finish with authority on the break.

That pretty much sums it up. Avery is a control freak!

Avery is the Frasier Crane of the NBA.

Imo, you can't win a championship in the NBA with a run and gun style of basketball. I know that the Lakers did it in the 80s, but Kidd and Dirk are a lot different than Magic and Kareem.

I said it before and I'll say it again. A run and gun offence works if you have the righe personnel.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that the Mavs adopt the Suns or Warriors offense. There is a middle ground.

If they couldn't win running with Dirk/Fin/Nash - they aren't winning with this core.
