What should the Nuggets do this offseason?

This is a team that I thought would be a true contender with the pieces they have, however they don't seem to work together and they don't have the defense that they should. What will happen with them this summer? Should they trade Iverson? Should they get another coach?

Thoughts!!!!

Trade AI or let him walk

Trade Camby

Let Carter go

Trade Kleiza

resign JR and eddie (for cheap)

Keep Nene and trade him during next season if he doesnt live up to potential

Trade Kmart if anyone will take him now he is looking better

Sign Bobby Jones and develop him

and most of all, FIRE GEORGE KARL

They obviously need better perimeter defense, and a nice offensive system. I would say those are their 2 biggest weaknesses. Perhaps a coaching change will help at least the 2nd.

They should look to move Camby and AI for prospects/picks. Their team isn't good enough to compete for a title now and if they stay put their team only gets worse.

Larry Brown is the answer..

it would actually be very simple to make the nuggets instant contenders....
believe it or not...trade carmelo anthony...

i think the 2 biggest pieces this team has are
1. allen iverson
2. marcus camby

get rid of carmelo anthony for a true big man such as elton brand, and two teams will benefit.

the clips get some star power, and the nuggets a true, less thug, more oriented team.

pg
iverson
smith
brand
camby

would make a very good team.

then make another small move that gets rid of kenyon martin, and bring in a true veteran, pass first point guard
maybe steve blake? jannero pargo?

pargo/blake
iverson
smith
brand
camby

looks like a true inside outside, tough team to beat.

They should have went after jason kidd because he is perfect fit for their running style with melo, kmart,jr smith, camby who can all run down the court and dunk. Anyway i think they should maybe use iverson as the trade bait and maybe try to move up the draft and go after derrick rose or even dj agustin . And also they should deepen their bench littlebit more.

Fire George Karl and get a coach who takes defense seriously

Trade AI(the Iverson/Anthony experiment ain't working) for a PG and a solid big. (if not a big a defensive guard)

Trade Camby while he has high value, maybe a three way deal where the Nuggets bring in Hinrich, who is the ideal compliment to AI and Melo, he can guard the 2 spot, run the point, and has the dead eye shooting that is perfect with those two.

Hinrich's value is at an all time low, he might be able to be had, along with front court depth.

yeah, no. You don't trade a young superstar for a guy that just missed almost the entire season. Maybe trade AI for brand or something but not melo

wouldn't that just kill any chance of them having a defense presence?

They should change their style of play.

That will probably force them to fire Karl and make roster changes but it'll be worth it in the long run.

camby's defense is highly overrated. he hasn't stepped out on a pick and roll in his life. he doesn't cut off penetration. he doesn't rotate to shooters. and he's a bad 1v1 defender against anyone with decent size and a jumphook.
healthy nene/kmart are better defenders, and a better defensive combo.

.

they need to let karl go, as he's clearly lost his heart/will/stamina to coach in the nba. he coaches like he doesn't care, he admits this, and it carries over to the team. anthony carter needs to be sent back to europe. atkins & camby should go in a trade that brings the team some combo of a shooter, a good backup point (with some size) and a backup big man. and then hope nene can put together a good year next season, and count on jr improving some more to be the starting sg and a legit 3rd option.

I can't envision this team losing the championship if coached by Larry Brown.

Brown + AI + Melo = too many egos.

Add Martin and even Camby to an extent, to that mix, and you've got trouble. Van Gundy, otoh, would bring some semblance of discipline that they really need, without the egomania.

Get a defensive guard either in the form of a bigger PG or an SG that can make open shots out to three point land. Obviously with an SG AI would have to be gone, but not necessarily dealing him for this reason (underlying factor in why).

Improve the 3PT shooting with one or two reliable, pure-type shooters.

Keep Bobby Jones around and get him in that rotation, if not him, stick with Diawara and for him to continue to get his jumpshot improved

Keep Nene around for another go at it

Become a consistently effective defensive team. Or at least make a noticable improvement in the way of traditional defense as the main team defensive style. Cut down on the gambling.

Improving the shooting and getting an interior offensive presence (Nene?) will allow for less gambling in reliance on easy baskets from lay-ups, dunks, and AI/Carmelo scoring.

Let go of Karl, bring in JVG, Carlisle, or maybe Larry Brown

Overall, get more balanced and versatile offensively...

Trade Camby for a glue guy.

I know the Nuggets fans have been hating on Heinrich but he really is the ideal piece. Great size for a PG, can shoot the ball, and a good character guy.

You need less star power, more role players.

Interesting. Melo for Brand would improve the team, but if you're going to trade Melo for a much older player, you had better become the favorites to win the title. He's just worth too much to the franchise. If I'm a New York type team, I may risk it, but in Denver I don't think so.

Trade Camby for Hinrich, trade Melo for Brand, sign Quinton Ross to MLE, sign Kwame Brown to vet min.

Hinrich/Carter
Iverson/JR Smith
Ross/Kleiza
Brand/Martin
Nene/Kwame Brown

That's actually a pretty good defensive team. In fact that's a pretty good offensive team too.Ross and Hinrich are great perimeter defenders, Nene and Kwame are great man defenders as are Brand and Martin and all of them can give you some shotblocking except Kwame Brown.

You have your post scoring with Brand and ofcourse AI as your perimeter thread, but Hinirch and Nene can also do damage.

It seems like they have all the tools...I wouldn't trade Camby or Carmelo. AI's been spectacular, but maybe the team should try to move him and see if they can get a player that "fits" more? His value is still really, really high.
