Please do a HUGE favor to Seattle Sonics fans

I know by now that many of you must be getting sick of us Sonics fans talking about this issue on the general board. I am hoping this will be the only time this type of thread is need.

Recently a group of cavalier and heat fans came to a Sonics blog and suggest we follow suit on what they have started. The idea is that these great fans of other teams created petitions to give to their owners saying that they want their owners to do what is right for the NBA and vote no on the issue of relocating the Sonics.

Despite the local momentum, much of how this all plays out will hinge on how the NBA Board of Governors will vote regarding the relocation bid. The vote is scheduled to take place in 2 days (April 17). Here

But I'm only one man, how can I help?

Seriously though, it is a good idea. It's time to stand for something in your life, even if it is just to keep a basketball team in a town, standing for something means something and everyone can help.

I think it really sucks for the fans of Seattle, but in all honesty I don't see why someone who owns a business shouldn't be able to move it someplace he feels would help that business make more money.

I think he's a scumbag for lying to everyone and not being honest about his intentions in the first place, but if the Sonics were selling out every night he would have no reason to move the team.

bstein: I guess the Pacers and 76ers should move then.

Also that is a very ignorant way of looking at the situation. Rebuttal arguments are posted in the other Sonics threads.

I really do not want this thread to turn into one of the other two threads on here. If you disagree with the Sonics staying in Seattle, and or do not see how this is an NBA issue then that is fine. I would just ask those people to please not post in this thread as there are two other threads where disagreements are reasonable.

Also at this point many of the arguments for why teams should and should not move have been covered on one of the other threads. Rather then reposting the same question/arguments I would encourage people to do some reading of the other threads. If you would rather not read the other threads then please refrain from commenting at all.

Thank you all.

But why just now at the 11th hour? This is a lost cause but we can feel your pain.

Well this idea to communicate to other fans using blogs and message boards about writing to their owner was just brought up yesterday. Late I know. With out much doubt the Sonics will be in Seattle for at least the next two years, so I guess many people feel that maybe its really the 9th hour. I think the emails have unified Sonics fans and gave us a terminator like relentlessness. It may be bleak, but its not over until its really over.

Anyways, anyone who actually is interested in taking a few minutes to write their owner an email would be greatly appreciated. I that hope between the three threads on the general board and all the reading that is online for anyone who is truly interested comments like the above could be limited in this thread.

 Whats the point of posting this though? You can't try to convince a fan base that has been watching their home team for 40+ years with "it's a business", and even though it is this is shady business especially.

The Cavs fans petition is right here: http://www.petitiononline.com/cavs1970/petition.html

but we are suggesting that only Cavs fans should sign it.

Using that same web site one could start a petition for their owner.

The idea was started in Miami on this site: http://thesouthfloridafan.blogspot.com/

@ bennith: do you mind if I post this on the minny board? I have no idea how to contact Glen Taylor since I'm too far away and I don't know if I can find his email-address or any other contact browsing through the internet.

if someone was able to post contact info for all the owners that might help make it easier for people to participate.

Just so you guys know online petitions are probably the most useless kind of activism.

The address of the Sonics front office for those inclined to write (probably the most helpful):
1201 3rd Ave.
Suite 1000
Seattle, WA 98101

Phone: 206-281-5800

Community relations e-mail address:
cr@sonics-storm.com

(Also mods, I'm assuming no problems posting this info, since it's all publicly available on their website.)

I'm with you, brother. This is a travesty. At least no one has to work on Mark Cuban.
