The David Lee Adulation Is Absurd...

From the New York Times
So one of Walsh

The thing is, even with a max contract, David Lee would be underpaid compared to the rest of the roster.

Lee is a very good player.
But underserving of a max contract as of now.

isiah will take care of this

HA

Everyone loves a hustle guy, but to even consider giving him the max is about as ridiculus as it gets.

An agent trying to increase perception of general player salaries? No conflict of interest at all here.

One rival agent, citing Lee

I'm a big fan of David Lee, but he isn't a max-contract player.

The Rashard Lewis signing didn't help this any.
On another note, Emeka Okafor's agent is smiling big after reading this.

hm
Posted: Wed Apr 16, 2008 6:44 pmAgents can say what they want but there is a very limited amount of money out there and it's doubtful that players like Okafor will get a decent contract, same goes for Ben Gordon and others. Teams aren't going to overpay like they used to. Rashard Lewis is the exception in recent years, not the rule.
Posted: Wed Apr 16, 2008 7:04 pmI think the people who have picked up on the fact that the statement about a max contract is coming from a rival agent are completely right.
Regarding Lee himself, I think he's a really good player and that the accolades he receives in that article are justified. He's the Knicks' best player, he's young, he still has some upside and he rightfully has a high value arounmd the league. I think he's arguably the only real building block that team has.
Clip34life, I wouldn't be so sure. Larry Hughes did get a max contract under this current CBA, Ben Wallace got his $60M/4yrs under this CBA as well, and you can always count on a couple clunker MLE signings every summer.
Posted: Wed Apr 16, 2008 7:19 pmthey say a max of 13 million... not a max contract... stateting a fact that his contract would top out at 13 mill
Posted: Wed Apr 16, 2008 7:32 pmthey also said he had the highest value of NY players around the league. Not that he has a high value around the league.
Posted: Wed Apr 16, 2008 7:35 pmI've always hated the "underrated" players that end up being Overrated by their own fans, such as Carl Landry, Jamario Moon, Delonte West, David Lee, Jason Maxiell, Amir Johnson, Brandon Bass, and Rodney Stuckey, to name a few.
What the hell has David Lee done to warrant so much hype? Been a lone bright spot on a bad team? If he got drafted by almost any other team, he would not be as hyped as he is, and now he might get a max contract.
Posted: Wed Apr 16, 2008 7:38 pmEverybody deserves max contracts on the Knicks
Posted: Wed Apr 16, 2008 7:40 pmObviously, this is an agent saying this, not Donnie Walsh or a Knicks fan. But I simply find it incredible that the words "David Lee" and "13 million" that don't include "over two years" can show up in the same sentence.
If you start giving out max deals to role players, you will be a bad team. It's quite simple. I'm really amazed that Beck was able to write that without making some suggestion as to the lunacy that would involve.

So these days if an article says "One rival agent thinks.....", that means that the player is hyped by it's own fanbase, and he will surely get a max contract? WTF? Go to the Knicks board, and see how hyped he is......a lot of them want him traded.
