ummm he was supposed to instruct to foul but he obviously told them not to foul and play it out...it is d'antoni's fault in this situation they follow the coach

Yes he is. He looks scared to play inside out and trust Shaq with his passing ability. He's looking like he should be fired IMO

Sad thing is, that's not really a D'Antoni thing, that's a coaching thing, period. How many times do you actually see teams take fouls in those situation? I'll never understand why, but you see teams stick their hands in their pockets and let their opponents get off tying 3s time and time and time again.

Look at the national championship game for the most recent example.

I read an anonymous scout in the L.A. Times who said coaches usually play it out because they're scared of giving up three shots on the continuation. And I understand that was a miracle shot by Duncan. But still -- when you've got a money foul-shooter like Nash, why not take advantage?

With Shaq, and I see Dantoni is the problem now.

You wont even utilize the big man you have but you run PnR with freaking Boris DIAW! over and over.

and then in the last seconds you take out your inside and let the offense drive in for the win.

I did find it funny that during one of the timeouts, the camera was in the Suns huddle and who was holding the clipboard drawing up the plays? Nash. I don't even remember seeing D'antoni in the huddle.

I've seen it. But just because it doesn't happen as often as it should, is no excuse, especially for a trailblazer that D'antoni is supposed to be.

I agree with you though, but coaches have no excuse for following the book if it is illogical.

truth be told, when popovich was up 3 and the suns had the ball with 15 sec left he didnt foul either so i dk anymore

but d'antoni missed on 2 opportunities, you would think he foul the second time at least...

Yeah, D'Antoni should have fouled.

He should've fouled the second time just to be safe, especially when you have the best and cluchest FT shooter in the league, but who would think Duncan can hit a game tying 3.
It's not just D'Anthoni, it happens all the time in the NBA, in fact most coaches prefer to take their chances with the 3 instead of fouling.
