Leaders and Leadership - Duncan

I know people say this guy is a quite leader, but the respect and leadership he commands from his team is unbelievable. On the last Suns offensive play of Game 1, did you see the team around Duncan, EVERYONE STANDING while he was sitting down, and telling them what to do on defence? It wasn't even the players that were going to be on the floor, it was everyone, even the guys in street clothes. They were listening to him like he was coach Popovich.

You don't see that type of leadership in the NBA that much anymore. Everyone has such huge egos these days and they don't think that any other player knows more than they do. Everyone just wants to look out for themselves.

When I saw the way he was rallying the troops, it reminded me of the NHL where players listen to veterans and the captain like the was the Coach, because they knew they had so much to learn and that what the vets said, or what the captain said, were words to really learn and listen to. In the NHL, many veterans have a say with the GM because of their years of leadership and general savvy, and to see that kind of respect for a player in the NBA, kind of rare.

I think you mean quiet ;)

Otherwise I agree. The Spurs are a real team where everyone knows their role. No Shawns "I don't get any respect" Marions on that team.

I'm a big fan of fast paced ball, hence i dont like Duncan, i dont like his overly methodical and mechanical form of play,I dont like the fact that he's denied most of my favorite players championships but i dont think there is one guy in the league that i respect as much as Timmy. Good game, better leadership, great crunch time work from the big fundamental

What more can you say about Duncan? The guy loves to win and does whatever he can do accomplish that.

No matter what anyone says about Tim Duncan, about how he has no personality, about how his game is boring, anything and everything...there is obviously something about him that makes his teammates love and respect him like no other player in the league.

Yup. I enjoy watching tim duncan...a lot of people love the fast paced warriors or suns or showtime lakers, but i enjoy watching tim duncan work the block and go for as many easy buckets as he can.

i dont know what the fascination with the suns' brand of basketball is all about.. I, on the contrary, LOVE to watch a traditional half court basketball and therefore, LOVE the spurs.. I dont know why ppl think they're boring.. to me, they're the most fun team to watch...

Same type of attention (or even lower ) that Stephon Marbury gets.

funny that Nash did the same thing, he even drew the play on the clipboard, but Pringles is being made fun of in another thread for letting Nash take over.

just because somebody enjoys watching the Warriors or pre-Shaq Suns, it doesn't mean they can't enjoy the Spurs or the Pistons play..of course there are many that follow it like that, but I don't think it has to be one or the other..I'm a fan of basketball in general..

it doesn't bother me if somebody doesn't like how Timmy plays, or finds him boring..it's understandable..as many of you know, I hate A LOT of players..it's just the respect factor..you just have to respect what a player has accomplished and respect his game..you can talk bad all you want, as long as you acknowledge the greatness..
