I see a lot of sensitive fans about the hack-a-Shaq issue..

Doug Collins also had a problem with it..

I don't see a problem with it..if your allowed using your strengths, why can't your weaknesses be exploited? free throw shooting is part of a players skill set, they should be punished for not being able to make them IMO..

if a player can't make jumpers and you let them shoot an open jumper, isn't that the same thing? so should we eliminate that too?..

anyone else have a problem with it?..

the main reason some people have a problem with it, is because THE SPURS used it IMO..if it was another team using it right now, it wouldn't be a big deal..

Whats the difference between a intentional foul and letting a player get to the rim and having a scrub big come in and slam him down?
Both have their consequences. So heres a new strategy, next time a player is about to get a fastbreak layup foul the center on the other team before he can lay it up. Hell once the tip off goes up foul and keep fouling till the penalty put that poor free throw shooter on the line then the team your playing does it also so you have a game of nothing but free throws oh boy sounds like a blast.

Doing it in the 3rd Quarter is what bugs me

I don't think Pop hacked Shaq for the purpose of creating a deficit in points because of shaq misses, he did it to deny Nash and PHX to get into any sort of rhythm offensively and open the game again, and it worked.
Besides, your argument is somehow ridiculous, other than the official rules of the game, there are ethical rules and conventions that dictate the way you play, even if you are sill within the original dry rules.
I don't know if 'Hack A Shaq' falls within this set of ethical rules or not, but in Sports, it's not always true to say you can do whatever you can to win.

It says we cant stop you on offense so we'll foul a key player and make him make free throws. Because we like our chances more that they will miss one then trying to stop you.

I think it's fine, if you are willing to put your team in foul trouble, be my guest.

3 AM EST-hack a shaq thread

i don't have a problem with it because it's according to the rules.

But what if a team ABUSES it to the hilt?

Say just 3rd game into the season, and i am the coach and i decided to hack-a-Boone (or any bad free throw shooter) in the first quarter?

It destroys the flow of the game, right? It's not totally wrong, it's part of the strategy yes but it can be abused...

There is nothing have-a-snaq

to be the best coach, you know what are your teams strength and weaknesses, and the other teams strengths and weaknesses, you need to know adjustments, call the correct plays, time it accurately execution and strategies.

Its not the spurs fault for have-a-snaq in the 3rd quarter, there was no problem back in the days when ppl would have-a-snaq at snaq oatmeal, now you sunsfans are coming out calling out the spurs strategy?

that's why you get only so many fouls, then when your guys foul out earlier in the game, that's why you wait till the fourth quarter if you hack a shaq or ben or tim

or the other team can take their shaq or boone out of the game. sometimes they're liabilities

I wish the Spurs would have done the Hack-A-Shaq earlier in the 3rd, that's the only way the Suns scored any points in the 3rd quarter. They didn't score the 1st 6 minutes. I think the Spurs felt sorry for the Suns.

yeh of course its fine. suns can take shaq out, or wait til the penalty and then don't give shaq the ball, then send amare and nash to the line. You gotta understand it works both ways. Also its impossible to do it for a whole game. there's foul counts as well as what was mentioned above. lets be realistic about it.

No need to change the rules. Besides, Shaq went 5 for 6 during that stretch so it definitely helped Phx out. I also hate it when the team I am rooting for does it b/c it takes away all rhythm from the game and usually, the player getting fouled steps up and knocks their ft's down.

When the Warriors did it earlier this year against Josh Boone, it was an absolute disaster. Boone not only knocked down his ft's, but it took the Warriors completely out of their offense, espeically since we're a running team. And since we're taking it out from under the basket every possession, and can't create turnovers or bad shots, it totally ruined our offensive pace and went into a slow it down, half court offense. So I think if anything, it usually hurts the team doing the fouling rather than its intended use.

i'm fine with it because there is risk involved for the team doing the hack a snaq

the question is, is there any violation to the rules when you hack?

i see no problem with it.

its a smart strategy when you hack a 50 percent free throw shooter

rules should be changed, but nothing wrong with the Spurs exploiting the rules.

I think it is stupid, especially because Shaq never had the ball when he was fouled. It made the game boring as hell, and it's actually unfair.

I think if you foul someone who does not have possesion of the ball, and you're over the limit, then the person who does have possession should shoot the free throws.
