Serious question about Rashard Lewis' contract??

Is it true that the Magic resigned their qualifying offer to darko just so they could be further under the cap and offer more money to Rashard?? Also what was the whole point with the sign and trade with the 2nd round pick?? Was that just so they could offer Rashard an extra year??

I dont understand why did they have to do all of this? Where the Sonics gonna match any offer above 15 million a year?? Was Rashard not gonna sign unless he got 20 million per year? :-?

I am still amazed at this. They were trying to get an Okur/Boozer type of chemistry, but I think the experiment failed badly. Gladly Hedo has been a good story.

Try sending a letter to the GM, good luck with finding out, and come and tell us when you come back what you found out about.

well i ask cause being that i dont live anywhere near seattle or orlando im not really in touch with their local media so i only know whats reported on national media so i only wanted to know if anyone out there had perhaps heard of any reports or rumors out there as to why the magic panicked and offered so much more than they had to? i cant believe that they simply overpaid because theyre stupid. something mustve caused them to resigned their restricted free agents rights and trade a 2nd round pick for Rashard.

IDK if its been beaten to death im sorry but could someone just please tell me once more im just really curious about it. Thats why i mention its a serious question i have. Thanx.

Magic executives are an army of idiots who were sold on an oscar like performance by the agents of Rashard Lewis to the team. Yes, they are that dumb. Afterall, this is the same group of executives that was going that signed Billy Donovan.

Big time. Because of the Rashard signing, which wasn't worth a third of it, now they won't be able to make key signings that could have increased depth, or could have made the team a contender. Rashard is the new T-Mac for Orlando.

i think he'll be more like the new grant hill for orlando... he wont be injured and he will actually be playing but he will contribute about the same and eat up more cap. at least t mac led the league in scoring twice while with the magic.

1) Yes
2) Yes
3) They didn't have to, but Otis Smith couldn't help himself.

Quick Mods lock this thread since the OP got the correct answers to his question.

The Orlando fan base will be out in droves soon and proceed to go into great detail as to how it makes sense and it won't blow up in their face because they are going to win the next 3 championships starting this year. :P

The signing makes perfect sense.

It's definitely not going to blow up in our faces.

We are going to win the next three championships, starting with this year.

(but seriously, we overpaid, but at least we are getting results)

We'll worry about three years from now in three years.

We got Hedo for the MLE..... Which we will have this summer.

It doesn't make sense, he is horribly overpaid.

But the Magic have Dwight, so sux for everyone else.

eh the Magic would be over the cap regardless of the deal. There wouldnt be any flexibility if they signed him to a 90mil contract. The only benefit would be that Rashard be easier to trade, but if youre investing 6 years in a player, you obviously want him to be around, so I doubt Otis Smith was thinking about trading him. Add to that he's part of the team that won 12 more games this year then last, and that he's played the entire year out of position at the 4 missing only 1 game all year, and that his team is up 2-0 in the playoffs so far, one really couldnt ask for much more. People may say its due to hedo, but people really never consider how having Lewis on the wing allows hedo to penetrate since teams cant sag off of him. I think they mutually benefit each other.

But then again, what do I know, Ive only seen every Magic game this year.

That's pretty much it. Of course the numbers on his contract are huge but there would be no difference in flexibility if it was a 50, 60 or 70 millions either. Magic would be over the cap for quite a few years anyway. But yeah, he's getting absurd numbers.

And yes, people don't credit him enough on this year's rise of the Magic because even before they try to see what he does to this team they come up with the numbers of his contract. He's the best thing Howard and Hedo could have had this last summer.
