Why does the Celtics/ Hawks series get national tv coverage?

Post#1 » by carlos1223 » Wed Apr 23, 2008 7:39 pm

I am a Sixer fan and I'm pissed that I won't be able to watch the game tonight cuz I'm at my college where I don't get NBATV. I feel bad for Raps and Magic fans who have 3 games on NBATV. What I dont get is why the Hawks/Celts series is getting more national tv coverage when that series is the least competitive of all the series I just mentioned. What is up with David Stern and the NBA?

Why make a topic when you know the answer?

Due to their location in Boston, the Celtics are a franchise which draws strong ratings throughout New England. Due to their history and big market status their are many Celtics fans and even more Celtic bandwagon jumpers throughout the country. Finally, they won 66 games so their the favorite for the championship.

Ratings. Stop blaming Stern, it's the fans who tune in to see what the Celtics are all about and that's why it's on national TV. This is VERY obvous and happens every year, it's simply the way business works.

I suggest you hit a bar tonight to watch the game.

Because everyone is jumping on the Celtics bandwagon this season, including the media. It's kind of annoying actually.

It's not bandwagon, it's because the Celtics pull in ratings from an entire region of the United States. Not to mention the return of the Celtics to glory is a very good story.

Two reasons:

1.Because Boston is a big market, $$$.

2.Teams that win 66 games are not just your run-of-the-mill top-teir playoff teams, they are special teams. Their window is short, they have three stars, their performance is artful. There are two ways in which a basketball game can be entertaining: one is if there is quality competition between the two teams and the games are close, exciting, and well-played down to the wire. The other is when one of the teams is SO great that the WAY in which they dominate becomes a work of art, and people watch the games like they would look at paintings or listen to a piece of music - like I said, like a work of art. I believe the way the Celtics are able to play against the Hawks constitutes the latter. Albeit perhaps the lower end of the latter, where the highest end of the latter was the 92 dream team(no, I'm not comparing the Celtics to the 92 dream team). Anyway, when a team like that comes along, you give them national coverage.

the celtics are the one seed.

the celtics had the best record in the league and are one of the biggest stories of the season.

the celtics have kevin garnett, brian scalabrine, ray allen and paul pierce.

the sixers and the pistons have..?

i mean, sure, both teams are good and it's gonna be a good series but bandwagon=$$

If you were here in Canada, I'd gladly hit that bar with you.

The Celtics are a great team that is a pleasure to watch even when they're massacring the opposition. I have no problem with their being televised. I do think DET/PHI is a better series but that's the way it goes. Ideally, you'd be able to see all of them. As it stands, I'm sure you can drink a Coke at a bar, I guess. :-?

Then go to a restaraunt like Buffalo Wild Wings or something like that. I'm sure there are plenty of places that will be carrying the game.

I'm pretty sure you can still go to a sports bar if you're under 21, you just won't be able to drink.

IT depends what the laws are. Some places don't allow anyone under 21 in after a certain time.

because close, highly contested games, coming down the the final plays arent as exciting as 20 point blowouts.

Detroit and Philly are just sideshows this year. Do you really think they're going to put the best team in the league on NBA TV?

Plus Boston is pretty good, too.

The celtics have the most star players and therefore are most likely to draw the highest ratings. Star players are the what effects ratings the most in the NBA.

Its the Celtics. If they aren't on national TV..why bother having them in the playoffs? The Lakers and the Celts are two most popular franchises in basketball. They have to be on national TV.
