Bobcats fire coach Vincent after one season

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Bobcats have fired coach Sam Vincent after one season.

The team announced the move Saturday. The fourth-year franchise had hoped to make the playoffs for the first time this season. But the Bobcats went 32-50, and that put Vincent's job in jeopardy.

Part-owner Michael Jordan had taken a gamble in hiring Vincent. Vincent had never been an NBA head coach and had spent just one year in the league as an assistant.

The Bobcats certainly want to win now. Brown will be the perfect choice.

Brown is the perfect choice to coach this team. I can't see the Bobcats hiring anyone else.

Sucks for Sam, great personality but he just couldn't get it done as a coach.
Besides, it's been 2 years in the making for Larry to coach that team.

I think Brown might actually wait to see if that PHX job comes available. I think his agent mentioned that Brown wouldn't want to be in a situation like NY. Bobcats are closer to that situation. Not cap wise or mangement wise....just not being in a situation to contend wise.

Thats a wide generalization. So are the Sonics and the Nets similar as well?

The Bobcats would've been a playoff team with a more experienced head coach. Heck, I even think had Bickerstaff stayed on one more year...I think they would in. They lacked a bit of depth up front, but they have talent on the perimeter.

The Knicks meanwhile are a mish mash of players who don't even come close to fitting together.

Who's next on the chopping block?

My guess is Mike Woodson in about a week and a half.

Looks like this guy was fired because Brown became available.

How are young teams going to develop if they keep changing coaches all the time? I think Jordan should hire Isiah, they deserve each other

Saw it coming with the Bobcats play this season and the recent reports of them having interest in Brown.

I personally thought bobcats weren't well coached team at all. If you have talented guys like Richardson, Okafor, Wallace and Felton, you should(or MUST) make in playoffs (specially in east). I hope they improve big time and make in playoff next season, because their players aren't getting younger (Okafor, Wallace- 25, Richardson- 27)

I really don't understand why people enjoy watching coaches get fired... and putting the blame mostly on the coach and not on the players for a terrible season. Personally I would rather coach NCAA then NBA.

I don't think most people "enjoy" seeing coaches get fired. There are many good coaches that have sadly been fired through no fault of their own, they just didn't have the personnel to win.

The only coach I've enjoyed seeing fired in recent memory was Isiah Thomas. But even that is more due to the way he screwed up his GM job, rather than his coaching. Just the way he mangled a franchise.

Sometimes fans get excited when a coach on their team is fired, and a new one hired. But I think that's more optimism that the new coach will do a better job, rather than enjoying seeing the old coach suffer. The Sam Vincent firing is kind of sad, since he's such a nice guy, but I'm sure Bobcats fans are still excited the next coach will do a better job.

No. Vincent had problems with every player. He actually said to the media that he is the only person on the team with any heart, back in december.

He may be a nice guy to the media and to people in general, but theres a reason even nicer guys, like Raymond Felton and Jason Richardson, urged the front office for a change. No one could get along with him.

I thought this team would've made the playoffs prior to this season. They had a nice young nucleus. It shouldn't have been difficult for this team to at least have the eighth best record in the East. Larry Brown anyone?

As opposed to some other teams in the league who have mastered time travel and who's players ages are actually going in reverse?



The bobcats - and especially their core, are still very young by NBA standards.
