I sure hope so. He should have been canned by now IMHO.
Thoughts?

If Detroit loses to Philly in the 1st round then Flip HAS to get canned.

Yeah I thought he was in the hot seat already last season and if they were to somehow lose to Philly, then I'd be SHOCKED if he was still in Detroit next season.

I'm gonna say no. I've suspected for a while now that Dumars is under directive from Davidson: "No more buyout/firing coaches".
I say this because each off-season Dumars starts doing subtle things to try and address coaching deficiencies. He says all the right things, but if you look closely you see Dumars recognizes the problems in Flip's coaching. and if he recognizes them why not can him? I say its because Carlisle and Brown were both fired (technically), Davidson aint buying out anyone else.

Didn't Carlisle only sign a 2 year deal in the first place?
I don't think Detroit fired him. His contract was up and Detroit decided to let him go to pursue Brown.

Flip is so incredibly inept, I'm not sure he is the whole problem here, but he certainly doesn't help.

Bill Davidson can't stop Joe D from canning Flip if they choke this early. It's one thing to lose in the conference finals. All teams are good enough to win at that point. But you cannot play like they did in the regular season, and then lose in the 1st round to a sub .500 team with way less talent and experience.
If they do lose any time before deep into the conference finals, I fully expect Flip and at least 1 of the core starters gone.

yes. he's mostly good at developing talent, not actual coaching.

Flip is basically a one and done coach. He'd do well in an NCAA tourney I think. He's at times very good at setting up an initial gameplan, but doesn't really understand the game in a way to win tough 7 game series'. The moment someone really studies the team and comes up with a way to neutralize the Pistons' strengths, make a real adjustment, Flip is done. He randomly throws different things out there and hopes one will produce positive things.

They need to fire Flip and shop Billups.
