NBA players as rappers

Post#1 » by shawngoat23 » Mon Apr 28, 2008 5:33 pm

Inspired by the Jay-Z/Lebron connection and the comparison of DeShawn Stevenson to Soulja Boy, I've tried to compare some NBA players to rappers. Feel free to expand on this list.

LeBron - Jay-Z. Obviously talented, but very much a sellout. As Jay-Z himself put it, "I dumbed down my audience to double my dollars," much as LeBron would rather be the first billionaire athlete than be the greatest of all time.
Kobe - Kanye West. The most talented rapper today, but definitely a whiner.
Jordan - Nas. GOAT.
Magic Johnson - 2Pac. Took the game to new levels, along with his rival. One of the first to combine talent with huge mainstream success.
Larry Bird - The Notorious B.I.G. East coast counterpart of Magic/2Pac.
Wilt and Russell - KRS-One and Rakim. The grandfathers of the game. Don't have as much mainstream recognition, but the true fans know how great they were.
Vince Carter - Mos Def. He'd be so much better if he actually cared.

I don't understand the Lebron - Jay-Z comparison, Jay has accomplished a lot, all Lebron has done is get swept in the finals...

Jay himself made the comparison. As did Lebron. If it's good enough for both of them, then why not?

In any case, the appropriate comparison would be with a sellout rapper. But 50 Cent is not talented enough as a rapper to be compared to Lebron as a basketball player, so the obvious choice was Jay-Z.

Deron Williams = Fat Joe

He's just as good as the other rappers, but he doesn't quite get the credit the rest of them do. And he's fat.

Carlos Boozer = DMX.

He's just kind of dirty and weird, and while everyone knows his songs, no one really likes him a ton.
