could the Suns build a legit championship team around Amare Stoudemire? could he be the main option in the system? does he have the leadership qualities to lead a team to the promise land?..

I don't know his defense is just so bad that his team will allways need someone who's able to cover his ass when he makes one of his ( many ) defensive mistakes.

I would have to say NO

well right now no...he must learn the game of defense, and just like barkley said when he doesnt score he gets bored, and thats where his immaturity comes into play!

he can't do it himself. He needs someone like a chris paul or dwade to break down the d on the outside. If he has just role players and continue to play in the current system, he'll never win one. Plus he needs to step it up with his help d and rotations. Leadership skill is iffy with him as far as i can see.

His offense is incredible and still developing.

Clearly his defense and maturity are holding him back.

Could he? Yes. Will he? I'm not convinced.

I think a defensive minded coach could do wonders for him. He's a terrible defender, but with his athleticism he could be tough otherwise.

Until he plays defense, no.

I know that I'm one Suns fan who's grown exponentially tired of his ego. During this Spurs series he's continually called out everyone, but himself. His ego is the reason for his chronic underachievement as far as rounding out his game. I mean the dude can't even box out or stay out of foul trouble ........and what year is he in?

It's no different with Amare than with Kobe... either can't do it alone.

Come on, Amare is nowhere near Kobe's league. If was actually asked to carry a team with all scrubs like Kobe once did, Lebron does, or lots of superstars have done, it'd be a complete mess. He is immature, selfish, has no leadership skills, no defense and a low basketball IQ.

No.

I don't know if his self-offense is good enough. And yes, I know he can be and has been noticably effective scoring without Nash's help at various times, but I have to see how things go on a consistent basis where it'd be on him more. Also with his passing ability, I've see him make nice passes here and there, but outside of that nothing is there really. Maybe with more oppurtunities to pass that could emerge.

His defense isn't and probably won't ever be good enough. He has to become more mature and have better discipline. He doesn't rebound consistently well, and ultimately hasn't been a stand-out rebounder like other top bigs. You don't think of rebounding when you think about Amare.

He's still a bit young, so maybe he improves significantly in an area or two. *shrug*

he's easily the most overrated player in the nba. freak athlete, with the brain of the Scarecrow (pre Wizard visit). you could bring in the best defensive coach in the world, if he doesn't want to play defense, like now, he won't. its that simple. He's a glorified dunker, who is an incredibly soft player, who recently developed " jumpshot" gives him more reason to be soft.

Bringing in shaq was the worst possible thing for him.. its like" hey amare, i know you dont want to play defense or rebound, so we brought in shaq, so you dont have to" .. talk about letting someone off the hook easy. Watching Kurt Thomas, who was forced to guard TD last year in the playoffs, bc amare couldn't stay with a guy 10 years older than him was priceless, though.

you take away nash, and he's an average player, he's a fraud... and an arrogant one, who whines to the media about MVP votes? hilarious.

what's going to separate him and Tyrus Thomas in 4-5 years? probably not much.

hes the best offensive big in the game, so maybe one day, but no one can do it by themselves

Amare's not the best offensive big man in the game... he doesn't have a present passing game, or a skilled, consistent back to the basket game. When you think of Amare, those two offensive aspects don't come up.

He has the other areas down well, though.

So in his second season, Tyrus Thomas put up 21 PPG without having anything considerable at PG, or how does Amare get compared to him? You say his defense is his problem, then you say he's a "average" player without Nash even though Nash isn't known for his defensive impact by any means. An average player at PF/C is Antonio McDyess, so Amare is only that good without Nash? (even though before Nash he was better than that).

I'm not saying Amare can lead a team or anything, he can't, but I'm just wondering what basis your arguments are actually coming from.

But yes, Amare's defense is laughable, he can't be a leading player by any means right now because he can't run an offense. He can run an Amare get his points offense, but right now he doesn't have the ability to create plays with the ball in his hands.

For the guy who called out Kobe and compared him to Amare.

The difference?

Amare HAS HAD A TEAM around him. What you think these last 4 years been about.

Nash
Marion
Diaw
Kurt Thomas
Barbosa
Bell
Hill
James Jones
Joe Johnson
etc.
etc.

This year with Shaq to take the attention off of him.

No player can EVER win anything alone.

Magic had Kareem, Worthy, Scott, Cooper, Nixon, AC Green, Thompson, etc.

MJ had Pippen, Harper, Rodman, Kukoc, Longley, Kerr etc.

Bird had Robert Parish, Kevin Mchale, Danny Ainge, Dennis Johnson, Bill Walton, etc.

Please stop making this to be somethign its not. Bottom line is that Kobe hasnt HAD a chance with real TEAM yet.

He's had scrubs....and at times still does. Give Kobe Bynum, Pau and Odom on one team and not only will he win you a title, he'll give you another dynasty.

I can assure you a team featuring

Nash
Kobe
Marion
Boris Diaw
Kurt Thomas
Brian Skinner
Leandro Barbosa
and Grant Hill

not only wins the title

But they blow out any team standing in its way.

All you'd need from Thomas is to guard the post and Marion is as good a rebounder as Odom has ever been.

If Kobe ever failed with that group 4 straight years, I'd slit my throat.

And the fact is, when Bynum gets back next year likely, the Lakers will be PROHIBITIVE favorites to win it all AND give the bulls a run at 72 wins in the process.

THAT my friend, is a Kobe led team. NOT an Amare led team.

I would say no.. trade him to the Magic and let him play alongside Dwight.
